My Wife's GoFundMe

Date: September 03, 2014 06:05PM

Hi everyone, my wife and I are trying to raise money to buy her a new digitial camera to replace the one that was either lost or stolen and go back to school to take photography. It's her dream to make it as a photographer. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated...

Only thing worse that a panhandler is a lazy ass panhandler. Get a magic marker and a piece of cardboard, make yourself a sign, and stand outside at some busy intersection like the other bums (and firemen). Have some pride in your profession.

I assume this is a troll. However, if it's not, please have some pride and tell your wife to get a job and earn the money for a camera like the rest of us do. Asking hardworking people to fund luxury items is truly distasteful.

If you click the link, you'll see this is 100% serious.

Here's a snippet: My goal is to work on getting a good digital camera, go back to school, and put together photo prints of the area (Capital, landmarks, etc.) to sell, so I can save up for a reliable car (Hybrid). My dream is to become a photographer and capture the essence of this great country through my lens.

She just needs $1,500.

First off, this woman has kids... The world didn't need anymore kids, there are way too many people here. Have you're mini-me's and you've chosen where your money goes.

Secondly, this woman wants to be a photographer! Wow, something else the world is in desperate need for- more photographers. I've known someone intelligent enough to be a brain surgeon who wanted to be a photographer. He now sells cars, left a full free-ride at one of the finest university's to go to photography school!

Impress me and tell me that you want to do something society desperately needs and nobody wants to do!

Of all the photographers I've ever known, they are seriously kinky perverts. An affair with someone in the business might buy her a camera and some tips and in the end, She will just end up photographing just as he does.

Many of them do that. The car salesman/photographer I mentioned previously is on there asking for $10,000 for a $4,000 service dog while he is making $100,000 at least selling cars. ( He's a real Houdini)
Back in the day when he actually got large production contracts he certainly would of bought her camera in exchange for double penetration, alongside him and some random man from craigslist.

Okay, so she says she's Tongan. Fine whatever.

Then near the end she states, "My dream is to become a photographer and capture the essence of this great country through my lens."

Sounds kind of patriotic, wants to become part of the American culture. Good, could use more immigrants with that attitude.

But then...

"My son’s name is Tevita that’s Tongan for “David” and he's usually the subject of many of my photos."

So if she loves this country so much why do she not just give him the name David as David just like the rest of us would do?

Ugh.

Her original camera was "lost or stolen"?

Might wanna change your wording on that. Tell everyone she was jumped by 3 black men and she gouged their eyes out with a nail file prior to escaping, although they did make off with her camera.

Lost or stolen sounds like she left it somewhere and forgot about it. Not gonna win too many hearts & minds with that.

No disrespect intended, but in an era where everybody carries a camera in his pocket, professional photography is a shrinking industry. If she's trying to raise money for a vacation, there's nothing wrong with that, but if she thinks she's going to earn a living as a photographer, somebody needs to set her straight.

It's a rough business. My cousin was a pro for awhile, even filming a music vid that won an Australian MTV music video award. He also went to an accredited 4 year university for it. The work is so tough and sporadic, that even a pro like him is only doing it part time.

She could pick up a decent entry-level DSLR and a couple of lenses for that price, which would be fine to learn photography with and seems to be what this woman wants to do.

However, she seems to think that she'll be able to make money using this caliber of equipment, which she won't.

If she expects someone to actually pay her to shoot for them, she'll need professional-quality cameras and lenses, which cost many thousands of dollars, and that's not even taking into account the thousands more she'll need for accessories.

As mentioned elsewhere, there are lots of other people who already have this equipment and many years of experience using it and even they're having problems making money.

True. I don't know if my boss could eat if it was his full time job. Perhaps she could manufacture buggy whips at home. It would be cheaper, and she would probably be just as likely to make money at it.

A lot of the work my boss gets is from referrals from established customers and friends. Someone just starting out wouldn't have that as a resource.

Also, today's pro photographer needs software, and experience using it. The commercial software isn't cheap, but there are open source alternatives.

I don't think she will find out what she actually needs to be a pro until she's actually taken the class.

So how is she planning on travelling to do her photography if she has kids to watch. I would imagine photogs have to go to where the pictures need to be taken. Who is fronting her travel seed money?

I just bought a refurbished Nikon D3100 for $250. Is there a reason that you need $1,500 for a camera? Something tells you that you are going to get a $100 point and shoot camera and pocket the rest of the money.

By the way, your pictures suck.

Step 1: Get a camera. LOL I don't anything about cameras.

Step 2: Take pictures of the DC area landmarks, which has never been done before.

Step 3: ?????

Step 4: PROFIT

I Agree that CanonD200 it's really good choice for a budget camera. As for glidecam I would recommend Glidecam XR Pro you can find out about it here https://gimbalgarage.com/best-glidecam-for-dslr/ as it is easy to use small and perfect for the Canon.
