"It's due to the influx of refugee libtards who screwed their hometowns by electing socialists and killing jobs while raising taxes. Now they're here, repeating their dumbassery."
Nope. Most of them want nothing to do with what they left (at least not the political part of it). They've got rule by mafioso gangs in the places you are talking about. There are no "socialists" ruling there. They went from one group of "ruling elites" to another group. Unfortunately we supported the first group of "ruling elites", but that strategy never works out very well. Revolution (and they have been true blood baths) usually ensues and we haven't quite figured out how to steer such revolutions toward "true" democracy. In the case of El Salvador, there was a horribly uneducated population that was not "ready" for democracy. So this is what you get. I think the lesson is really that we live in a world where we cannot afford to have El Salvadors and Afghanistans and places where governments do not educate their people! While we may not like what is happening, if we are forced to accept them here, we need to educate them! Otherwise we will dumb down our own populace and create a situation which is ripe for a "ruling elite" to conquer. It is already happening with the way we "educate". We are stripping our children of the ability to think critically and analyze (key abilities for being able to vote and run a democracy). Wake up people and demand the best education possible for your children. It isn't robotic standardized tests that create thinking people.
I know a little bit about this from years of teaching these students. I can tell you that many of them don't participate in class, don't challenge me as the teacher, keep their heads down, and are like frightened cattle. I try my best to tell them that I want to hear their voices, that they are free to speak their minds, but they want to know what I think and parrot back to me. This is NOT the American way. This is not what creates a forum where real solutions and novel inventions can occur. Let us continue to be free thinkers and speakers and make this place OURS. The fact that you are worried about it is a good thing. Just continue to think about how we can keep this place free. We have been given (and many have died for) many gifts here and let's try to keep them for our children and the future children (wherever they may be from).
I honestly don't know what words like "socialism" mean anymore. What I do know is that people are here and they are not leaving anytime soon. That pretty much means that we must help them to be productive and to contribute to our society. We must work toward the kind of society that promotes each individual. I am heartened by the fact that people understand how important this is and are willing to speak out to keep it a reality.
