E-ZPass Virginia is alerting customers to an email scam preying on a commuter's worst nightmare: unpaid tolls.
A sample email includes the subject line, "In arrears for driving on toll road." And the message, with an E-ZPass logo, claims that several invoices have been ignored, along with a "link" to the invoice.
"Please be advised that this is not a communication from E-ZPass," reads the warning to customers. "We advise you not to open or respond to the message."
Questions about any message purportedly sent by E-ZPass can be answered by its Customer Service Center at 877-762-7824.
Valid emails would include one of two return emails:
addressesNoReply@ezpassva.com and
customerservice@ezpassva.com.
