Nicely done protestors. Textbook example of how not to promote a message.
All lives matter, and a stain on the rights of any one person is a stain on the rights of us all. I don't think there is a rational person out there who could have seen the video of George Floyd and not be appalled, incensed, and outraged. I salute every protestor who came out and said this where it needed to be said: In Lafayette Square, in front of every statehouse, in front of every seat of government.
So what are you doing blocking Burke Center Parkway?
Don't worry, all of us who saw you know. You are attention whoring. You are trying to improve your Facebook profile and make yourself look good to your progressive friends on social media. You are desperately trying to inject meaning into your life.
Meaning in life is hard to come by these days. People used to get this through their vocation, through religion, through art and music and literature. But you've been told for the past three months your job is not essential. You worry your progressive friends will sneer if you touch on the subject of religion. And nothing in the fields of contemporary art, music, or literature is much to see, hear, or write home about. So now you try to establish meaning in your existence in the stupidest place possible: Politics.
Everybody has heard the message. Everybody agrees. Everybody with two functioning brain cells to rub together agrees that the rights of everyone, regardless of race, creed, or color, are sacred. You might not want to ponder on that too hard, though, because you might come to understand that it applies equally to everyone: Black and white, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican. When broken down like that, you might come to realize it does not fit into your world view quite so well. If it did, you probably would not think your right to block traffic supersedes the right of the people in cars trying to use that road, when you could just keep your protest on the sidewalk and respect everyone's rights.
I certainly hope that other people who were inconvenienced by you did not walk away with a negative impression of the message you are trying to convey, because it's a worthwhile message. You might consider, though, that you're promoting your message to people who have already heard it, agree, and think you're acting like jackasses.
