Fairfax County Police Dirt Bike?!

Driving around Reston Town Center and the Fairfax County Parkway this afternoon. Anyone have a practical reason for Fairfax to own one of these?

Any practical reason for the county to own something like this? Let's see, there's the W&OD trail that stretches across the county from Western Loudoun to Arlington, and there are probably 45 miles of pathways in Reston alone. As metropolitan as Fairfax County has become over the years there are still plenty of wooded areas, pathways and parks that a regular police cruiser can't access.

motorized vehicles cannot legally enter those paths. The police would have to break the very laws they claim to enforce in order to patrol those places.

This is why they have the homosexual police on the bikes.

I would imagine that Police motorized vehicles are "authorized" to use these paths if necessary already.

If the bike is anything like the Honda Trail 90 I used to ride years ago the things can climb a hill almost straight up. Very durable bikes and inexpensive.
I would guess the police have them to patrol the parks and wooded areas.

The practical reasons??

As said above, the WO&D trail network. Also, powerline right-aways and don't forget all of the other parks. They used to sit out at Burke Lake Park and Pokick Bay on weekends, and also cruise all to old 4-wheel spots back in the 80's.

Also as hinted above, as developed as Fairfax seems, there are still plenty of rural areas - thank GOD!

Wow, you got staying power 345

it flatters me that someone pays attention to me for this long and thinks for extended periods of time about things to say about me. It seems I have an actual, bonafide fan.

And the fact that he almost always mentions a homosexual act in his messages aimed at me tells me what his intentions would be if he ever got together with me. You should really consider hitting a truck stop to get that built-up homosexual tension out. It worked for the Gov. of New Jersey.

for people who have difficulty walking (due to genetic disorder) it is a savior. i personally dont have that issue but i have seen a guy on mason campus that uses one who would other would be stuck in a wheelchair. it is an excellent invention but i dont think the technology went to proper use. it seems like it could be far more effective in an industrial setting. i do think it's cool though because you can hack them to go 40+MPH. :)

Are you sure about hacking them to 40MPH? I have been on one up to around 20-25 MPH and it was a rather unnerving experience and I have a hard time believing the the components would last long at the higher speeds.

All in all it is a cool device that I would like to own if I had a spare $4000.

The other day, in the park I saw two men kissing. And until I saw the cop on the dirtbike, that was the gayest thing I had ever seen. And then I saw the cops on the Segways, and the dirtbike cop was now the second-gayest thing I had ever seen.

Segway was pushing hard" pun intended" to have the cops in Fairfax malls test and evaluate those things. The sticking point was that they wouldn't put spinners and hydraulics on the one going to Springfield Mall.

I got to use one of these at a tradeshow a couple of years ago when my company was using it as a prize in a contest. It was a lot of fun, but the top speed is something like 12-15 MPH which is plenty fast...a mod to 50 MPH would be downright scary. I think that my wife would use it for commuting from Middleridge to Oak View or a quick errand to Safeway, but I don't know how practical it is other than short trips.

its ironic that that dirt bike cop is on a highway... its illegal to drive that bike on a high way... its intention is for ONLY off road emergencies

When I attended South Lakes HS in the late 80s FCPD would patrol the black paths. Officer Novak was one of the "mounted" patrol. They were notorious nasty creatures that did not operate their machines well. (read: we outran them on foot every time)

Jesus!! There are some real tools on this site..

The bikes have tags and all required lights to make them street legal. They are used for all the trials that you obviously do not bike, roller blade, or run on in the county.

So many people bitch about what the police have or do just to make themselves feel better.

Most of the time... they have no fucking clue about what they are talking and need to STFU!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the dirt bike is somehow used to enforce laws or catch criminals. I'm glad we've all had the opportunity to solve this complex puzzle.

That's the FFX police jump bike. It used for all the famous FFX police jumps.

1) The Reston Town Center fountain jump
2) The eighteen school bus jump
3) Jumping Fairfax One while the helicopter was starting to take off

Absolutely, cops have to respond to emergencies in all terrains, and sometimes chase lawbreaking illegal immigrants off road!

I remember that back in the 1980's/1990's they used to have smaller motorcycles for path patrol, and the beefed up cruiser type bikes for roadway patrol.

The dirt bike needs to be bigger and more agressive looking.....and with a rider not fat like this officer. Athletic cop decked out in motocross protective clothing decorated in the FFX police colors would be badass.

Motocop could ride through the woods beating and arresting vagrants, illegals and hoodrats.
