An elderly man suffered fatal injuries in a house fire early Wednesday on Willow Valley Road in Clifton.

Fire crews were called to the two-story home around 4:25 a.m., where they found heavy smoke from the first floor, Fairfax fire and rescue officials said in a news release.

“Firefighters simultaneously searched the home and conducted an aggressive fire attack,” the release said. Crews rescued the elderly man from the fire. Two other occupants of the house had escaped before firefighters arrived.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Washington Hospital Center, where he died.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control within 10 minutes. Damage is estimated at $40,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Grandkids got tired of waiting for grandpa to die and to get their inheritance, so they took matters into their own hands. Probably started the fire and waited 20 minutes to call 911.
