Has anybody come across either a coyote or a fox in the area?

I see foxes out late at night from time to time. One of my friends has a pair of young foxes that live in the woods behind her house. She feeds them every day.

We've had several in our neighborhood over the past few years. Sometimes they leave a bit of a mess around but I haven't seen any mice since they showed up.

Foxes, yes. Several. Coyotes, never.

Once in a while I hear foxes mating in the woods behind my house. I occasionally see foxes roaming the neighborhood as well. I have heard rumors of neighborhood coyote sightings, but I have not seen one myself. So, to answer your question:

Foxes in Fairfax? Definitely.

Coyotes in Fairfax? Maybe.

Up until this past year I used to see foxes fairly regularly.

Foxes are as common as squirrels around here. Did OP just come out of a coma, or is OP one of those Sierra Club types who's never left the confines of their high-rise condo?

Saw a dead coyote on Pageland lane a while back. Definitely a coyote - I've spent enough time in coyote country out west to know the difference between them and dogs, even dead.

The past two years, we had fox dens on the properties on either side of ours. Led to lots of traffic and much squirrel-poaching until the kits were able to get out and about and hunt for themselves. This year, we've had just passers-by and through. Probably just coincidence, but coyotes and foxes don't get along. As the coyotes press inward, they will tend to drive the foxes away. Coyotes are much less visible, so a seeming absence of foxes may mean an actual presence of coyotes.
