Va. House tosses out governor's vetoes

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Virginia House of Delegates has thrown out two of Gov. Terry McAuliffe's line-item budget vetoes.

House Speaker William J. Howell ruled Monday that McAuliffe's vetoes were outside the scope of the governor's authority.

The move effectively overrides the vetoes without the House having to vote on them.

One veto Howell tossed out was of a Republican-backed amendment aimed at preventing him from expanding Medicaid without legislative approval. The House GOP majority blocked McAuliffe's top legislative priority, leading to a protracted budget stalemate that threatened to shut down government.

Howell also ruled a veto concerning funding for new state judgeships out of order.

The House voted 70-27 to override McAuliffe's veto of funding for a new ethics commission. The Senate is set to take up that veto Monday evening.

McAuliffe has watched President Obama ignore his oath of office and rule outside the law and is attempting to do the same in Virginia. It is one of the horrible consequences of the Obama debacle.

Of course, in taking this money the state would be incurring untold future STATE spending.

Maybe it was a little more crazy to put a community organizer in the White House. The results suggest that is the case. To be honest, I would think liberals would be the one most upset with the old community organizer. The idea of big government has been set back a generation by the White House's bungling and ineptitude.

ie, illegal to federally tax a NYer more than VA, but not illegal to tax rich more than poor. use of formula to scale taxes on super rich is typical - but questioned by , ie. it's clearly illegal to pick on a particular group to pay more taxes than another similar but protected group or to abuse the fact they are lesser in number and have "less vote" when deciding taxes, or to miscount their most likely intentions in a taxation situation. the constitution would have to be changed to allow NON-direct taxation. congress has many limitation that is one.

Ross Perot (presidiential indep. cand. 1996) argued formulaic taxation had gotten corrupt adn flat taxes should be used. Steve Forbes as well later on.

Because of our Republicans we are now officially indefinitely funding the health care needs of the poor of other states. This includes heavily Republican states like Arizona and Kentucky. We will also have higher premiums and debt ridden hospitals as a result of this.

All so Virginia Republicans can play national politics against a president that can't run for re-election.

There is no reason why ANY Virginian shouldn't hold Republicans accountable for this at the ballot box. this effects us all not just the poor whom of course have been outrageously denied an opportunity to acquire long needed critical health care needs.
