CENTREVILLE, Va. - Firefighters found the body of a man in the aftermath of a fire in the 13200 block of Lee Highway Monday afternoon.
Fairfax County (web | news) firefighters were called to the home about 2:20 p.m. They discovered heavy fire coming from the roof and a brush fire in the back of the house.

Fire officials say 60 firefighters were called to the two-alarm blaze, which required about 20 minutes to knock down.

No word what caused the fire.

Nothing beyond reports that they found a woman dead inside the home. By the looks of what was on TV a few minutes ago that was/is a huge house.

Traffic was a mess at that intersection around 4:00. Channel 4 reported that the body of an elderly man was found inside. The roof was totally gone by the time I went by. Sympathy for the family, not only their family member was killed but their house appeared to be a total loss.

I saw the smoke this afternoon, grabbed my camera equipment and jumped in the SUV. I didn't get very close, but I snapped a few photos on the driveby. I'll post them up shortly.

I drove by it on the way home to confirm the batch of houses I thought it was in, and the answer is "people with a lot of fucking money."

Those houses aren't the crammed in pieces of crap, those are big friggin houses. The kind of property you drive by and ask yourself who has the money to live there.

If I had the means to buy a large home, I'd never buy on Lee Highway. Who says they have money? They're probably some of the clowns that overextended themselves and the rest of us are now bailing them out.

Ya, it was out of the driverside mirror. I had just turned off Stringfellow on 29S from the detour and was shooting shots in the mirror. Sorry, I should've flipped the image.

Really, an electric blanket couldn't start a fire if it was dipped in gas then plugged in and turned on. This is a poor conclusion and instead of saying we're not sure they pass on a completely absurd lie.

Vietnamese. the old gentleman lived with his daughter and son-in-law. they were out of town for the weekend.

i think 90% of Fairfax County over-extended themselves.

anyone who bought a house worth more than 3x their annual income did...

I don't understand the "Jewish lightning" bit when a homeowner is overextended....burning the place down does nothing for a borrower.

The lender is going to be the loss payee, not the buyer! The house will be rebuilt and if the owner was in default...the lender will foreclose, just like they would have if the place hadn't burned.

Jewish lightning is when you OWN the property outright and torch it for the insurance payoff because it may be more than you could sell the place for.

if people would stop being cheap asses and use the central heating system, instead of space heaters, then their houses woudlnt burn down.

Note to self. Place space heater next to murder scene before starting fire.
