Manassas police have charged a 37-year-old man in connection with two incidents of young girls being approached by a man in a red truck in the Godwin Drive area.
Joseph Briganti of the 11000 block of Ramroad Road off Bacon Race Road in mid-Prince William County was arrested at his home Wednesday evening after "information obtained from witnesses" led to his identity, city police said in a news release.
In both cases, the man drove up to young girls and ordered them into his truck. Both times, the victims got away.
Both happened on June 11, the first around 6:15 p.m. A 16-year-old girl told police she was running on Godwin Drive when a man in a red pick slowed down behind her and asked through the window if she needed a ride, city police said in a news release.
The victim changed direction, but saw the truck in the area again. This time, the driver followed her down Hastings Drive and onto Shannon Lane.
The victim told police she stopped in an area with a lot of people around. The driver pulled up and told her to get in the truck, police said.
The girl escaped and made it home unharmed.
Then on Sunday, two girls, 12 and 13, reported to police that on June 11 they were walking in the area of Clover Hill Road and Godwin Drive around 8:15 p.m. when a man in a red pickup stopped near them in the intersection and yelled at them to get in his truck. The girls ran to a nearby house and were unharmed.
Briganti was charged with stalking and his being held without bond at the Prince William-Manassas regional jail.
