What's the best way to fix a broken cable to open your hood on your truck?

Other than paying tons of money for a mechanic to fix it?

Specifically, this is the cable for your car hood opener, located usually near the driver's side door. Yesterday mine finally broke, and I've gotten all kinds of crazy estimates to fix it. It broke right next to the handle inside the cab of my car and the cable is nowhere in sight. I was able to jury rig the car hood so I can open it without it.

Is there anyway to fix it myself? Has anyone on here ever done it themselves?

If you don't intend to sell the vehicle and by your own admission you've got it nigger rigged then I think you're good to go...

That's one thing I've never had to fix on my car yet. I agree, try googling it..

Another quick question, when I go to get the car inspected, will they hold this against me?

Not hard to replace usually. It's just a standard pull cable like on a bike. They're usually not even that hard to get to since they're up top in most. A new cable should be relatively cheap.

Might want to check first before buying the cable that it is what's broken. Sometimes the connection at either end can break or be deformed especially at the end where you say yours is. That's often just a slot in a plastic piece that will break with time/use.

Remove the cable and re-route - should be easy. you might have to remove the panel in the driverside foot well but so what that is 4 screws. google the part and installation forums it should be easy.
