I am sick and tired of going to various Asian merchants and their refusal to use a cash register. THEY ARE AVIDING |LOCAL STATE AND FEDERAL TAXES AND IT HURTS EVERYONE IN THE LONG RUN

It is obvious that they are not ringing in the transaction. As a consequence, they do not pay local, state and federal taxes.

I would like to report them anonymously, but am not really sure how to do so.

I am going to boycott these merchants if they continue to do it and tell them to ring in the transaction.

There's no law that says you need to have a cash register, and no law requiring that you accept credit cards.

It's not uncommon to use the contents of the till to calculate the days proceeds for tax purposes. This is an accepted practice with many small businesses, especially in a business where the are no "returns."

Nor is it uncommon for a small, family run business or franchise to not accept credit cards. Credit cards not only are a risk, but merchant costs are considerable.

If you have concerns that these businesses are not working in accordance with our tax laws, the next time you are in the store, check the Business License and Occupancy Permit. The law requires they be visibly posted in the establishment.

Buisness Licenses and Occupancy Permits are not renewed unless taxes are paid. If the businesses paid local taxes, IRS and VA knows about them.

SO - if the BL and OP are displayed on the wall - they are paying taxes.

If they are not displayed on the wall (usually near the check out, or office) then you are justified in contacting the Town, County to verify they are a buisness. If they have no record, then contact IRS.

The reward for turning in tax evaders is 15% of the tax due.

Credit card transactions typically cost the vendor another 3% which ends up being paid by consumers anyways.
Taxes are a huge drain too and businesses just pass those costs on to the rest of us.
Not having to deal with complex accounting software can offer a small business a lot of flexibility. Some of these businesses are more willing to give loyal-customer discounts and impromptu specials.

They do charge me sales tax but 5% on a $3 T-Bone at the Korean grocery store is not a big deal. It's still better than paying $10 for it at Giant and still paying the 5% tax. I think the OP and you have a choice, either have the IRS number saved on your phone and just stay on hold for half an hour to connect and spend another half an hour to give them all the info on the phone every time you think this is happening or just vote for big government. Vote for someone who will install cameras in your shower because you might be violating Virginia's sodomy laws.

What a stupid post this is. I am asian myself and I do know for a fact that most of them paid their taxes and reported with the irs correctly. I also know some that don't report some of the cash payments. There are good and bad people of all races. This statement is like saying all backs are criminal. Let me tell you the reason why some of them don't accept credit card. THE BIGGEST REASON IS OVERHEAD! Did you know that credit card companies charge monthly fee, transaction fee, and % fee. Most of the asian merchant just don't want to hassle with this much overheads that is why they don't accept credit card. From bussines perspective, reduce overheads is actually a good thing, not bad.
