Gene Editing
Date: January 21, 2019 12:41PM

So this guy in China has apparently used CRISPR technology to alter a gene in two born babies and one fetus to make them more resistant to HIV.

Everyone is denouncing him.

I'm wondering if any leftists - preferably atheist leftists - can articulate any sound reasons consistent with their belief-system as to why what this guy did was "wrong" or "bad," and why we should try to legally prevent folks from using this technology to edit other genes or even fully clone a human being?

TIA!

That you are stupid enough to conflate gene editing with cloning confirms that widespread suspicions of your brain having been wracked by stupid nonsense are all quite correct.

no wonder you'd fund pelosi projects

what is crisper other than your brain smokign another joint?

CRISPER is using a virus to alter a cell

that's been called innoculation and done in the usa for decades

SHOW ME THE MONEY. SHOW ME THE MACHINE THAT EDITS DNA. PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.

point here: you'd be giving PEL'o'Si money for nothing - usa grant money oversees (which pelosi and hillary are experts at: funnelling usa money overseas)

ALSO, many who are doing "dna editing" are fakes - they are removing or adding whole chromosomes which are a super-structure of (millions of dna) that are NOT edited

the complete citric cell cycle is yet to be known

the complete dna sequence : also largely unknown / uncharted territory

the complexity of super structures (proteins) that are part of the metabolic or lyphatic system: largely unknown - their size and complexity are such that they are somewhat indescribable individually and unthinkable complicated as a whole

(your chance of getting a gene fixr on your iphone app anytime soon is: zero. your chance fake research is part of your cell phone bill tax increease is: guaranteed)

CRISPR in cancer[edit]
As of 2016 CRISPR had been studied in animal models and cancer cell lines, to learn if it can be used to repair or thwart mutated genes that cause cancer.

(if you don't think that's throwing money out the window your an idiot. usa has spent a trillion on cancer research and it's almost wholey failed. they can identify, they can scoop some out and cross their fingers is what it adds up to)

As of December 2014, patent rights to CRISPR were contested. 666

you can bet all this adds up to: "the global warming scam of medical science"

Gene editing (and previously: the cure of all cancer research)

are the GLOBAL WARMING of the medical circle - a medical circle thoroughly obama-ized

Wow. One irrelevant non-sequitur after another.

This scientific development (illegal both in the US and in China where it occurred) is apparently too much for some folks to grasp and accept. Guess that's why it's illegal.

FTR, I don't consider myself a leftist or an atheist, but I can answer this one, having read about it some.

First, as another poster noted, CRISPR is not cloning. But let's just look at CRISPR.

It's of course appealing as a way of fixing genetic defects, such as cystic fibrosis or retinitis pigmentosa. The concern is this: where do you draw the line?
"Your child will be of below average height, but we can fix that."
"Your child will be of below average intelligence, but we can fix that."
"We want our child to be blue-eyed."
"We want our child to have blond hair."
"We want our child to be athletic."

So the concern is that it feels risky to just say "Sure, go for it, no problem". I don't think anybody thinks that it isn't going to happen: they just don't want it monetized and commercialized.

For a good view of where it COULD go, read Daniel Suarez's book "Change Agent", https://www.amazon.com/Change-Agent-Daniel-Suarez/dp/110198466X

It will be interesting to see how this evolves.

IN OTHER WORDS I WAS RIGHT

YOU LOOK BUT YOU CAN FIND NO GENE EDITOR

THERE ISN'T ONE

falling back on his honorable fund seeking words

you cannot verify ANYTHING he said means "correctly edited a target gene"

at best you could verify he made an accident and documented it afterward

at worst - and probably - you can't verify he edited any gene at all

hey, buddy, there is a good option to read scientific article about CRISPR/Cas9 Vectors at this site https://www.geg-tech.com/lentiviral-vectors/vectors-crispr/, and you know that article about CRISPR made me think about opportunities that can be attained if CRISPR technology will be well researched. By the way, that article is written in scientific language, so I even found out about wide variety of different words and processes that happen when CRISPR work. That article is so attractive especially for you because of the presence of references to the sources where that information was taken :) I hope I helped you :)
