Reston Association Investigates Fish Kill on Area Lake
Patch reader caught a four-pound, seven-ounce bass in the lake May 31.

Reston Association is investigating possible causes of a recent fish kill at Lake Thoreau, according to a recent news release from the group.
Lake consultants for the association have reported seeing similar fish kills in other area lakes they manage.
The recent 90-degree weather followed by a cold spell and heavy rains, along with stress from spawning at this time of year, could be the cause of the kill, according to experts.
Another potential cause could be a bacterial infection called Columnaris disease. RA does not believe toxins are responsible for the fish kill at Lake Thoreau.
On May 31, Patch reader Michael Hales posted a photo and information about a four-pound, 7-ounce bass he caught at the lake.

Reston's four lakes are available for fishing. Many species of fish may be caught including largemouth bass, channel catfish, crappie, bluegill, sunfish and others. Here are a few simple reminders to help make your fishing experience pleasant:
•Public docks for fishing include the Lake Anne Village Center dock, the dock by the Lake Thoreau pool at Sunrise Valley Dr., and the dock on Lake Audubon, below the Lake Thoreau dam.
•Anglers 16 years and older must have a Virginia fishing license.
•Residents may fish from RA-owned property, which includes the dams on each lake.
•Much of the shoreline around each lake is private. Please respect the "No Trespassing" and "Private Property" areas indicated by signs.
•Anglers are encouraged to release grass carp and large bass back into Lakes Audubon and Newport.
•Please do not litter.

Good to know. So if you are Reston resident who pays RA dues you can fish from the damns without license. Nice!
