Has anyone learned anything else? I grew up w/ the woman they found. Many family members found out on FB which is horrible! They have shared that services info will be shared when they are able to get over their shock and figure out what to do. I doubt they will share any details about what happened and I haven't seen any news articles as of yet....anyone know more? Thanks....so, so sad....please pray for her 10th and 8th grade children!

I think that the police must think it's accidental, because if there was a crime committed, wouldn't we know more or would this have been on the news?

Have you heard anything else? My brain just won't stop whirling...did she fall, have a heart attack, was she murdered?, etc.....not sure why it wouldn't be released yet unless there's a continuing investigation and it's a homicide?

I honestly have no idea what protocol is for dif types of investigaitons...as far as I know she was in good health and happy all around...hadn't gone missing...and to your point, it does seem there would be something on the news if they neighborhood had a reason to be worried about other attacks....I don't get local news from up that way....I'm on the Eastern Shore, VA....if you hear anything, please share! I was a friend of hers, not family and if not for FB, wouldn't have re-connected....what I meant and stated, was that her family, actual next of kin found out on FB -- her sister for instance, before the authorities and let them know....FB is would not be my personal preference as a means to learning about an immediate family members death....her family expressed their opinions on her page to those of her friends who were posting in a way other than prefered .... each to his own and the right to ones opinion....our country may have its share of problems, but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else! M., hope you and your family as well as everyone else on here, have a wonderful weekend! :)

I heard from a neighbor that they suspect the husband might have murdered her.
Apparently he wasnt living there anymore. She was seen pacing and on the phone the night before, kids woke up and went to school without seeing her, came home from school and still no sign of her. Called their dad, dad decided to take one of them for a walk when they "found" her.... Pretty shady stuff..

I walked in those woods a few days ago--someone planted a hosta and left some flowers on the spot where I presume she was found. Pretty horrible if the (ex?) husband did it and brought one of the kids to the body. There has been NOTHING in the news about this whatsoever...the Vienna police report just reported she had been found deceased and it was "under investigation."
A day or so later, in the same police blotter, there was also a report of "A citizen requested police presence while she retrieved property from the home of a deceased relative" FWIW

Was it ever disclosed what happened? I think I know who it was...my family knew her and knew of her funeral last week. If it the same woman, she was one of the friendliest people I have ever known. Such a terrible tragedy. Though we had not spoken to her in years, my family has been so saddened by her sudden mysterious death. If you are so disposed, please pray for this good soul and her children also.

On second thought....if its not a crime or some other potential danger for other neighbors, it's not really our business to know what happened. I guess it is human curiosity trying to make sense of a terrible thing. Still, I would hope the family and friends know what happened so that they can heal.

I confirmed it was the person I knew. It's really upsetting, and I wish we had reconnected with her in the last few years. Maybe she was in need of help. Again, she was the friendliest person I ever met. Brightened up any room. And funny. I am so very saddened by it all. I am praying for her and her family. And her ex as well.
I have learned that there is a way to donate for the children via paypal or an address. Viennaneighbor or Alicia, do you think it is okay to put up the link for it here? I am a little hesitant as there is a rather large population of scum that scurry about these posts, if you know what I mean. Personally, I wouldn't put that link here but that's just my 2 cents. The one person I know who knew her (and was the person who told me about it in the first place) had mentioned there was a lot of stress in the household, i.e. it wasn't an amicable splitting up. If a crime had been committed I can't see how that would stay out of the news but on the other hand it's possible there just isn't enough evidence to bring charges, even if there is a very strong suspicion of a crime.
I can't imagine what this family, especially the children, are going through. She was very religious and involved in her church, so I am hoping this is a comfort and support for all involved.

May 27 2:30 p.m.
A resident, who is taking care of a neighbor’s house, reported that the estranged husband of the former resident was attempting to enter the residence. The resident stated he did not believe theestranged husband had authority to enter the residence. Lt. Marsh responded to the residence and after speaking with the estranged husband and the family of the former resident determined that this is a civil matter and not a matter for the police.
He informed the estranged husband to seek legal advice

I don't know if it's all that suspicious. Perhaps, he and his ex had an agreement on mutual use/ownership of certain things in the house. Even if he is technically trespassing, the extended family or whoever is taking over things there might not be fully aware of the arrangement they had. I hope there was an innocent reason for his actions.
By the way, I knew the couple years ago and found them both to be friendly, good folks. I am saddened by any divorce, but their breakup really surprised me. But who knows what goes on behind closed doors.
I hope everything is going as smooth as possible for the children who are suffering the most.

The agreement was that the lady would remain in the house until the eldest turned 18. Her family is aware of this agreement.
Those of us who know the family are watching the situation very closely. We expect the medical examiner and police to uncover the truth about what happened.

Good researching!! If she had a court order against him, that makes him a pretty good suspect, if her death was other than natural causes. How long does it take the medical examiner to release a cause of death? Is that when charges are brought? Have not watched enough TV shows to know how long it would take...

Things are so quiet in this case. Facebook is pretty silent on the matter which is surprising to me since this is such a mystery (to the public anyway). One would think this would induce a gabfest, a little like we have here at Fairfax Underground.
I know it is bad manners to ask how a person dies when the obit is silent. Perhaps the death was an embarrassing mistake. Like eating random mushrooms, touching a live wire, etc. Who knows. All I know, is that Columbo would have this wrapped up by now.

Well, I don't know what the trail is like, but maybe she was taking a walk, kind of spacing off while she was on the phone...fully intending to return, but had a heart attack or aneurysm. I would think the medical examiner could confirm either of those scenarios, but I don't know. Perhaps there is more giving them pause to consider something else.

Now the wife has passed away. The children should go with the father. Correct? He had visitation rights. if so, whys he not able to resume living in his house. Other than creepiness and unanswered questions, would not the court order on visitation be null. Court order was not a matter of danger to children but divided parenting. Correct? Wonder if the woman's family is taking custody assuming suspicions. A sad mess.

The trail is not treacherous per se--there are some roots and such, and it could possibly have been muddy/slippery, esp. in the evening if you could not see, but there aren't big rocks there to fall and hit your head, for example. The whole thing is so very strange--why she would leave the house in the evening like that, with 2 kids, alone, to walk in those woods which are NOT lit, and fairly dense now that all the foliage has come in. How does someone just end up dead in that situation?

This is a real stretch, but could it be that she entered the woods looking for a pet, got lost for a long time in the darkness, and succumbed to hypothermia? She was a petite woman. It was raining on May 15, but not sure if it had started yet in the early morning hours. It got down to the 60s that night with a 8 mph breeze (if I am reading the chart correctly from that night)...

Publius has given use some of the most interesting information. But other than LM being thin, taking up yoga, and loving the kids, I can't second any of the rest. I am still wondering how Publius knows there was no heart attack, stroke, etc.
Is it even remotely possible she got "lost" in the forest behind her house? Someone said how dark it can be back there.

There has to be more to this story...ruling out heart attack and stroke, no outward marks....I mean what the heck?! Maybe they will just decide it was "natural causes" in the middle of a forest behind her house.

As mysterious as they come. I hope what happened is revealed and not filed as a misc. natural cause and closed case. Maybe there is a lesson to be learned. I have thought about walking in the woods behind Cunningham just to see what's back there but the creepy factor is just way too high. Seems a little too ghoulish.

This whole thread is awful, like peeping toms on this poor
womans death. The pain is still fresh. There are children
without a mom, sisters without a sister, and an ex-husband
who lost a copilot in raising those kids. God knows what
the confusion he must be having as well. If we are to know
what happened we will find out. Until then, have respect.

Ah, yes. A valued member of the community turns up dead, under mysterious circumstances, on a well-used public trail yards from the neighborhood elementary school property line. But according to “post” above, none of this is anyone’s concern.
