I think the reason for that is because everyone is being led to believe that this “might” be a suicide. When you have a suicide in the area, many of the papers opt not to report on the death. Personally I can see some good reasons for not posting something like that if that’s case. Seems highly unlikely to me that a mother of two would go off on the path to do that, especially since she was so protective of them from the father in the past.

We should get that new guy from the show, "Sherlock" on the case...Benedict Cumberbatch...he'd solve this in a minute...also, he's dreamy..

I agree. That could still turn out to be the case.

If so, it was accidental or unpremeditated because there was no note for the children or other tying up of loose ends. Also, she evidently intended to return to the house that night.

Don't understand the ambivalence toward the father..."protective"
of the children from the father. I never heard anything about
the children needing protection from the father. The divorce, as I
recall, hinged on other matters.

I'm just about convinced the combination of wine (if true), diet
(gluten free), loss in weight, anxiety, cool/wet night, and loss
of orientation in the woods resulted in a freak loss of life by
hypothermia. No one has been able to sweep that one away.

I really liked the wife and the husband. I was so confused, saddened,
and very torn when I heard they were divorcing. So much so that the break
probably unintentionally led to a fading away of our friendships.

(I stupidly did no attend the funeral. Though I hadn't seen the woman in
years, I should have paid my respects. In lieu of that, I have sent and will
continue to send plenty of prayers for her and her family. I wonder if the
exhusband was welcomed/allowed to attend. I gather he didn't want the divorce
to being with)

Yeah, I know. But that is precisely why the
family/friends may be hush about it. The embarrassment
factor. "How could you get lost in a 100 square yards
forest?!!" However, I think, given the right
circumstances, the same thing could happen to anyone.

Husband was at funeral, but never mentioned once or referred to during. Notice obituary reads as if deceased was a single parent and that father of children was unknown.

I knew the husband to be a quiet, nice guy. Maybe too nice for his own good. But then, again, I didn't know him that well.

That sounds pretty unwelcoming. What did he do wrong? Was the funeral at her church? If so, it was probably brave for him to go. Daniel in the lion's den.

Yes, at her church. Was very much on the sidelines, not sitting near relatives, ignored afterwards.

Possible but unlikely because Occam's razor.

Also, none of this explains what the hell she was doing on that trail in the middle of the night.

She was last seen standing in her driveway at 11 pm on a school/work night. Why so late? Why the driveway?

"Here kitty, kitty! Come back to mama!"

She was apparently very attached to her cats.

If it was hypothermia, she would be (and probably is now) highly embarrassed.

Seems like a mob mentality us against him. I wonder if the church elders reached out to him before or after the divorce. The Christian thing to do, you know...

So noone said anything to him (that you could see) at the funeral? Was he allowed to wave to his children? Please forgive me if I have him pegged all wrong.

In any event, that is all passed and cannot be undone. I hope there is a resolution to how the woman passed on. I hope lessons are learned. I hope healing accelerates and some kind of good comes from all this even if it's not realized until the afterlife. These things have a ripple effect. I know I will be more thankful for my wife after hearing all this. Maybe strangers reading about this will find a message that makes them a better person.

It hasn't been cold enough to die from hypothermia in months so we can shelf that "theory".

I'll admit that's pretty humorous, but no. She had pets but she wasn't a dumbass.

Besides, everyone in Vienna knows this area's full of foxes. Mangy ones at that.

Not so fast....I thought so too, but I have seen multiple references online to hypothermia at mild temperatures. Check this out...

http://adventure.howstuffworks.com/survival/wilderness/how-to-avoid-hypothermia2.htm

Here's the first paragraph:

Although many cases of hypothermia arise from being outdoors in cold weather or water, it can happen at home as well. During the winter, stay aware of how cold your house is. People have become hypothermic in houses that were around 60 degrees Fahrenheit (15.5 degrees Celsius). Power outages in the winter can also send temperatures plunging, making it essential to wrap up and keep warm.

I can buy that. But what else could it be?
If she showed no outward signs of trauma.
Even with an accidental overdose or poisoning,
why would she enter deep into the forest?
Unless, of course, she was hallucinating. I
guess someone would walk her there, but
wouldn't there be outward signs of trauma?

I just don't get it. Some of the "facts"
on this page must be wrong.

But then, we'd know that the name wasn't real, and that the gender of the person was the exact OPPOSITE of what was being stated.

Im really sorry to hear they think that. Way too hard for me to believe
it with her fears about the afterlife. And then hiding in the forest
with little chance of being saved. Perhaps it was an accidental overdose of
some kind. I still feel so terrible for her and those associated with her.
I am just plain sad about the whole thing.

Thank you for the info from the ME office. Will the results be public? Or
is this just for the family to know?

Dern, but we already done lynched the ex-husband at Gallows Road!

You were the ones that said it couldn't be suicide, because "she had taken up yoga and a gluten-free diet, she was recently promoted at work, she was devoted to her children, she had a superstitious fear of hell and believed suicide meant damnation, etc, etc" so we committed Vienna frontier justice...this is sure embarrassin'!

Uh...I made those observations alongside an equal number of observations that might point *TO* suicide.

It'd be a good idea to make the results of the investigation public, once it's complete. If it was murder, then justice can be done. If it wasn't murder, then the ex can finish raising their children without people giving him the side-eye wherever he goes.

I agree with you, it seems much too suspicious to me. Because this case has been given little or no attention in the local news, I wouldn't expect to see the findings come out in any newspaper. It's all very sad. I don't know what to believe.

He will likely still be wrongly blamed as that would be easier than
facing the truth.

I hope he can raise his children. Perhaps they will move away from

Town of Vienna police investigating death
http://www.fairfaxtimes.com/article/20140606/NEWS/140609408/1064/public-safety-briefs&template=fairfaxTimes

Police said they were called to the 900 block of Circle Drive on May 15 for a call that a woman had not returned home. Police said the woman’s children said their mother had not been seen since the previous night. Police said the body of the missing woman was later found on a trail in some nearby woods. Police did not disclose the cause of death, but said that the case is being investigated.

Story is that the Vienna P.D. immediately chalked it up as a suicide. (I'd heard that on the day of her funeral.)

The toxicology report might eventually confirm as much, although the autopsy revealed there was very little in her stomach...if that means anything.

I hope this hasn't stopped the police from doing their due diligence though. Seems important to the living either way.

So, seems like the ex-husband suffered a loss of a family member and was almost run over by a drunk driver. Add that to the divorce and I could see that he was not having a very good year. This family has definitely had some serious shit go down in the past year or so and I cannot imagine the stress/hurt/loss the kids are experiencing. Hopefully the extended family that has come to their aid is equipped to deal with all that has happened.

Someone should call Meade, the Eunuch Detective. Although he has the appearance of an obese incredibly untalented "singer," he actually is a genius at solving mysterious deaths, in addition to being a 7th Level White Crane Karate Master.

His usual method is to come into town, and while "performing" at free gigs at coffee shops, he's gathering evidence. Given the fact that no one actually attends his performances, he is able to slip unnoticed from the stage and investigate leads.

With his adenoidal voice that grates on a suspect's nerves, in addition to the cold, clammy touch of his pudgy fingers, even the toughest criminal will break within minutes.

Meade is available, and actually has nothing going on for the next few weeks...a free place to stay and all he can eat and drink (he prefers really sweet tea)...and he'll be in Vienna within the hour.

But remember the trouble that got him ran out of Loudon County.
Instead of apprehending the suspects and turning them over to the proper authorities, Meade would just suck them off.

No way, absolutely no way that this was a suicide. I am only a friend of a friend who knew her well and I personally met this lady a few times. Zero chance she would have ever let her kids be left without her. She was very hands on and involved and protective and devoted. Totally out of character for her to leave and not have told her kids even if she was mad about something. The kind of lady who would of made arrangements for her kidsif she needed to be away for a time.

I agree. If it was not "natural causes", it had to have been an accidental overdose or poisoning. I don't see any other way.

I'd prefer a few chili dogs, but a tossed salad would be OK, too.

Reporting back soon...my buddies want me to meet them in the parking lot, by the dumpster...

I'm thinking the same way, very doubtful she would commit suicide with kids involved and dependent on her. No way in Hell!

This makes me think that more and more the husband had something to do with it. Maybe he even pressured or threatened her to do so or he would make her life a living hell. Sure wish the police would release more information on this case. Neighbors and the community are worried, and fewer are going out on the paths.

Do you know the husband? I use to. He was a very nice, quiet fellow. Not religious or at least religious to the degree of the wife. Hard working at jobs that were, perhaps, not as economically appreciated. Even if the wife hounded/criticized him mercilessly for money to the point that he snapped, I still don't think he was capable. I can imagine a phone fight where she made threats and then went ahead with something. But even then, she would have been crazy angry out of her mind. No way, she did anything like that with anything resembling a clear head IMHO. Was she out of her mind? Someone mentioned drinking wine. Maybe she combined with antidepressants or something else to go into a "crazy" zone that would make that scenario a possibility. But I find that really hard to believe let alone accept.

Someone else said here that there was no external trauma to her. So, I greatly limits the ways the husband could have been directly involved. I find the possibilities left to be outlandish...though possible. Giving her an overdose of something like heroin (but then wouldn't that be a sign of external trauma?) or poisoning with arsenic in the food (black widow in reverse).

It's still super tragic whatever the reason. I just hope it was an innocent mistake that excludes any safety fears for the community and blows away the dark clouds over the husband.

That's it! The wife received a "surprise gift" of a new mattress just before she died. Is it possible...outlandish, I know, but bear with me...that the mattress was coated with some sort of delayed-action poison?

I'd like to tell the Vienna Chief of Police about my theory, but I'm afraid he would think I was just a scairdy-cat who didn't know what I was talking about.

I don't know if you're making a joke about a poisoned mattress or what, but this is serious. As a Vienna mom with a great family who lives near Circle Drive, I'm worried about even letting my kids out of my sight until this murder is solved.

And then, I saw in the news that a convicted pedophile was taking photos of children in a Vienna park. We didn't buy a house in this nice town to have to worry about this.

I live three blocks from Circle Drive. While people are saddened for this family, there is no community panic. "The woods" meanwhile are a small stand of trees, not some deep, dark mystery land, and the only reason to be on "the paths" would be to go over to the ball fields and playgrounds behind Cunningham Park ES. Kids sometimes cut through the woods to get to the Vienna Woods pool. Doubtful the deceased was hiking over for a solitary late night swim.

You're a critic? Seek help. "All this time" was two days. The thread has been open for 35 days. Her having been struck by space debris is more likely to explain this death than that she was felled by a "bad batch" of medical marijuana. Even the poisoned mattress theory might be better than that. Some of you should just go back to the Malaysian airliner threads.

> Are you the lead Vienna investigator on this case?

No. Are you? Do you suspect that this individual has posted ANYTHING in this thread? Moron.

Thanks for the sanity. Chicken Little Syndrome is everywhere these days and it seems to become more virulent in each new victim. I certainly hope CDC is working on this. I know I'm keeping my kids locked in a closet until a cure is found.

Say, are you the famous Aspergers Detective? Counting the exact number of days that this thread has been open...then asking if the poster was himself a police investigator...just your style.

And space debris? Only an Aspergers savant would come up with that!

A frozen lump of sewage from an airliner? It would ultimately thaw, and investigators would think nothing of this fecal missile, simply making a note to have lengthy Vienna Police stake-outs on this site to thwart Clean-up-after-your-dog scofflaws.

Hmmm, indeed, you are a genius!
