Sex, Lies and Cancerous Cows: How 9 Million Pounds of Bad Meat Got Into Food Supply

CNN is reporting that a meat processing plant bought diseased cows, intentionally hid their condition from inspectors and that one of the inspectors was dating a plant foreman.

Petaluma, Calif. – A slaughterhouse intentionally used cancerous cows, covered it up by cutting off diseased pieces of meat, and allowed millions of pounds of meat unfit for human consumption to enter stores, a CNN report found.

And while it was happening, a government inspector was in a romantic relationship with a plant foreman.

In February, 8.7 million pounds of meat processed by Rancho Feeding Corp. was recalled.

At the time the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service reported that Rancho had "processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit of federal inspection."

The meat was distributed in Illinois, Texas and California.

CNN reported that investigators suspect "that Rancho was buying diseased dairy cows and processing them when government inspectors weren’t there." Also, workers would cut off diseased pieces of meat to hide signs of cancer. In some instances, workers were "replacing the heads of sick cows with healthier ones."

CNN also documents a relationship between an inspector and a plant foreman – documenting intimate encounters. The inspector also "sent [the foreman] a picture of her naked back side in a tanning salon" the report states.

CNN's video report is attached to this post. Click here for more on this story.

What happens if you eat cancerous beef?
