Applying to be a police officer in PWC?

Join the park police and help keep these streets free of mooslims. If those rag heads look at you wrong, 3 in the head.

US park Police? Correct me if i'm wrong but I believe they're federal? I don't think i'd enjoy it considering most of their day is comprised of the same mundane tasks. I'll pass but thanks for the recommendation.

Why don't you check out becoming a Park Ranger! That's a way cooler job, probably with less stress AND less probability of getting kilted on the yob!

Whatever you decide, just don't turn into one of those pricks that pulls people over for the most ridiculous reasons!

Why not look into the secret service? They pay pretty good, and you can bang hookers when you are on assignment overseas.

SS is the lowest rated 'best places to work' in the entire federal government. Less than 40% of the people who work there like it.

Again I wouldn't have any interest in becoming a park ranger. I want to bridge the gap between the minorities and the police force. I think right now there is a lack of trust. I'm not trying to join the ranks to just lock people up and ruin their days. However I do know that a portion of the job requires that. Does anyone actually know much about the hiring process or the department itself?

Thanks,
Nick

Why not just look it up on their website?

I've looked at their websites and it's pretty much the same as any other department. I just wanted some insight from either current of former employees. I don't want to get on and realize that it's not something I wanted to do.

You could always take a shot at Capitol Hill PD. I have a buddy who did that out of college. Spent Six months down in Georgia for training. He had to do shit details for the first 6 months to a year, but after that, it was smooth sailing. He now has his eyes on making a transfer to the Diplomatic Security Service, which is pretty bad ass. If you are looking for relevant information, I'd contact the offices of these departments directly. I did the same thing with the Secret Service a few years ago, and the people I spoke to were very helpful. I realized it wasn't for me.

Worst job in the SS was being assigned to Hillary Clinton's detail. She's a nasty bitch to be around.

I've read up on Capital Police and the consensus seems to be it's a boring mundane job that pays above average. I think most of the federal gigs are the same with the exception of a select number of special agent gigs. I speak russian and German so I thought about going federal but it seems too white collar for my liking.

It sounds like you want a challenge. If you are looking for some action, and something "blue collar", there's always the DC police. You could look at PG too. There is no shortage murders, gang shootings, and drug investigations.

Is it bad ass, or just gravy train. You know, 6 figures, pension, not much going on daily. Of course we hear about the overseas travel with free exploration of prostitutes. Pretty sure they are quite the regular to local front page advertisements. Sounds bad ass.

Oh, yeah, Very little crime busting apparently. ROI is so terrible, fuck it.

YEah I would like a challenge. I want to expose myself to as much police work as possible up until I decide I want a family and settle down.you can't expect a 21'year old to just stand in front of a building for an entire work day.It appears PWC or Fairfax County seem like the best deparment in the DMVV area.

Think outside the box. I became a Charlottesville police officer right out of college and it was the most amazing experience ever. Crime there about 10 years ago was moderate to awful. The recession made it worse. I got tons of experience, and while the pay wasn’t the best, I got to help entire communities. I did a lot of work in vinegar hill, which is very underprivileged.

I mean bed back to the area four years ago, and currently work with the Loudoun County sheriff’s office. Id recommend you look into that as well. Starting salary is higher here than most jurisdictions and they’ll pay you for relocating. You’ll get some experience “on the beat” and lots of experience in the lab if you ask for it. Only thing I didn’t like about c-vile is the lack of advancement opportunities.

Don't work for them they'll put your azz inside of a jail cell and make you a jailer. It's the most boring and frustrating job there is. You'd rather be on the road as a road cop.

PWC is a well respected department. They have plenty of room for advancement and the morale is fairly high. You can't go wrong with PWC, goodluck.

You know what sucks, when I was a kid i wanted to be a cop. Thought I could help people.

Went to applied- scored too high on the exam. They said I was too smart for them.

It's ok- their loss. I am not trying to brag, but i am very good at relating from people from ALL walks of life, and honestly I see so many issues that can be stopped before they get worse but of course the existing cops don't care about enforcing law, they just care about ticketing the public for minor infractions to generate revenue.

I had a wonderful idea for community based policing- having the police BE in the neighborhoods, do things with the kids, get them to trust police growing up- I had one in my neighborhood- but now that I am in the real world and see police only care about protecting the property of the rich (see how fast they will investigate a burglary or car theft in a rich neighborhood vs a poor one) and generating revenue for themselves and their unions instead of actualy getting to know the people they serve- I gave up.

I even tried being a security guard - same deal, all have power fantasies and have no intentions of serving their people.

I just volunteer now- but with no money I have no power- forget it, I am tired of trying.

Good luck bro/sis in your quest. Not trying to discourage you just hope you are in it to help people and not just bust heads and take names.

if you want to be the police apply everywhere, because most only hire white males as a last resort and it takes time to get hired. the smaller a department is the longer it takes to get a job there because there is not as much attrition and you can want to go to PW but the truth is they only need females or black/hispanic people "to represent the community they serve."

You need to go big, DC or Baltimore city will take you tomorrow. It will be much more fun, you will gain seniority much more rapidly, there is more opportunity for a specialized assignment, and if you dont like it once you get some years in you can lateral to just about anywhere now. if you want to become a gman someday, you have to before you turn 35.

I've been with VSP for some years. PWC is a solid department. Most of the basics are on the website but if you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

If your goal is to bridge the minority/LE gap, you will have ample opportunities on an hourly basis to do that in PWC. The west end has settled a bit since Corey Stewart started deportations some years back, but the east end is getting the DC/PG crowd now and there are daily felonies there now. They were always shooting and stabbing each other from time to time, but now you are getting car jackings, retail armed robberies and a host of associated ghetto level crime. You will get to meet these folks. Good luck righting the ship.

I was a security guard during summers while in college and you're right about the power fantasies. Fortunately, I didn't make the height/weight requirement for event security so I didn't have to deal with drunks and druggies at concerts but some of my coworkers thought I was somehow handicapped. One in particular was a wannabe cop but nobody would hire him because he was too fat. He eventually did get a real cop job but he was essentially a radar trap operator in a small town in Florida with only 150 people but somebody had to catch those speeders getting off the Interstate.

Does PWC actually let their officers work? Or are they put on the bench for the duration of their shift until a radio call comes out? Also, it appears they're hiring minorities? So if i'm hispanic, asian, or black i'm more likely to get hired? I hear the VSP is in the gutter nowadays is that true? thanks

It's 50-50. There's always a ton of shit to do every shift so the "scout car on patrol" is about 50% of the time. Minorities get first crack but very few apply and even fewer get through the process. Each class is still about 50% white males or more. Spanish language speakers are a huge deal these days and can get you a 5K bump. VSP is on the down cycle - pay is not generally competitive and morale is at a low point.

Price Waterhouse Coopers is one of the BIG 4!

That sounds good. I'm considered 'White' but I speak russian german not sure it'll help me. Also are you aware of how long this 'background check' takes? What happens if someone omits a job from their work history? Can they find out?

Yeah VSP are pretty much useless. All they do is write tickets and work accidents. Every now and then they get their feelings hurt when someone doesn't stop and they get into a useless pursuit. Don't join VSP folks there's a reason they're requiring a 5 year contract.

They cannot find out that you worked for a drug cartel unless you were busted at some point.

You should apply to Fairfax county PD, pays a little more and is more exciting.

I was terminated from Mconalds after I stopped showing up. If I don't put this job in my work history will they be able to find out? Also Fairfax sounds nice but they seem like a bunch egotistical ass holes.

Daily counseling on calls? Yep same here, don't apply to any LEO. It all sucks. No matter where you end up command staff will always find something to bitch and complain about. And god help you if you become one of their targets.

You may want to mention you had to work a few jobs at minimum to make ends meet and DO tell them you stopped showing up and that you were terminated, but you needed time to search for a higher paying job to make ends meet and in retrospect should have worked something out with your supervisor to accommodate your job search schedule.

Yeah. They'll pull your tax returns along with running your credit and the rest of your financial disclosure info. But don't worry. The background investigator will go over the whole packet with you and ask whether there's anything missing. Then the polygraph examiner will do the same thing.

I applied over the summer to PWC.
Here's the process:

1. Apply online and submit a personal history statement packet (they'll contact you in a few weeks)
2. Set up a physical abilities test a few weeks after they contact you. (pushups in one minute/sit ups in one minute/vertical jump/1.5 mile run)
3. Interview/polygraph a few weeks after physical abilities test. They interview you then decide whether or not to move onto the polygraph that same day after verifying everything on your personal history statement. (Interview is filmed and takes about an hour and 30 minutes)
4. Start police academy training in either spring or fall session

Some info and advice: PWC has a 94% approval rating among its community, so it's a good environment to be in. Out of all of the departments I applied to, Prince William seemed like the most welcoming. However, honesty is their most important value when applying. I was turned away for leaving too much information off of my personal history statement. I scored highest on almost all of the physical tests out of my class, but it didn't matter once I admitted to leaving info off of my history statement. I have a clean history, but I've committed small crimes like anyone my age (23) that I've gotten away with, so no matter how well you do physically, it won't matter if you lie (or in my case try to come clean too late during the interview).

I had almost the exact same experience as yours lol. Who was the guy/gal who interviewed you? Also, what caused you to come clean afterwards?

Great. You want to be a cop but you lied on the application.

Winner. There's your trouble...as they say.

The whole "lying overtly or by omission" has three giant problems - which is why better departments generally have truthfulness as the #1 hiring factor.

1) Most encounters get filmed these days. When - not if - you have to beat some nigger's ass to get him cuffed because he tried to kill you, the last half of the video will be made public. Internal Affairs will obtain the first half of the encounter from other people in many ways, and it better match your story that you gave them when the shit hit the fan initially.

2) You are worthless as a witness in court if any lawyer ever finds out you have ever lied about anything. Your department needs to know more about you than any lawyer ever can. Nobody is a perfect angel, but the sins need to be divulged.

3) Usually after a combination of #1 and #2 going wrong, the county may have to pay serious cash to some retard if he didn't deserve the tune-up you gave him - even more if you somehow killed him. This is usually done very quietly, but it's expensive. It's much cheaper to sort out the potential bad apples during the interview and poly than to hear about them 5 years in.

PWC Police is only hiring Nazis, at this time. PWC is hard core, soft rookies get smoked on the first day, so only hiring hard core Nazis to deal with all the Niggers and MS 13 beans.

New officer hires on the FCPD force better have more then a high school diploma, 2 years of college and a second language is much preferred today and makes the difference of getting hired or not. They have lots of applicants and only choose so many. People who have done community service projects in HS or after have a better chance too with the 2 yrs of collage and at least some good knowledge of a second language, yes Spanish is one that's good to know. Korean, Arabic, Vietnamese also

From a minority citizen's point of view on how the police are in this area:

PWC (Lawful Good)- fair and honest, aren't likely to pull you over unless you are doing something flagrant- in other words you KNEW you were speeding or your sticker was expired. Fair game. Very professional. Courthouse is old but functional, judges are fair. They allow plenty of time to pay fines (offered 90 days when I only needed a week!). The officers can carry their guns in the courthouse. A mix of all classes (rich and poor alike), which shows fairness in enforcing the law.

Ffx (Lawful Evil)- tend to pull over people for the flimisest excuses. In court, a lot of the charges are reduced or nolle'd completely because the cop was acting on his own personal bias instead of the exact law (in other words, pulled over because you or your car LOOK suspicious or they have a bias towards your race and try to find something to charge you with). The police act like drill sergeants and have no empathy for people, if they pull you over you WILL get a ticket. Huge modern showy courthouse, which they pay for with their revenue from pulling over mostly poor minorities of all races. It is rare I saw a upper-class person in there, everyone (defendants) looked working class. Fairfax doesn't allow officers to carry guns in the courthouse, likely because of the amount of poor people they pull over/arrest one of them may get desperate one day...

Arlington (Lawful Neutral)- "by the book" with some leniency. More community based than tagging speeders all day, I see them out working with children, etc they are VISIBLE while PWC/FFx tend to hide. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose but they are FAIR. Courthouse is pretty modern and comfy, all walks of life coming through, all races like PWC fair and balanced. Arlington is a bit "showy" with their newer cruisers and such, but their budget is well managed. Can't speak to their fines.

Good to get the view from someone that has spent a lot of time in the system throughout the area.

Which back seat of a patrol car do you like the most? How are the new Fords compared to the old Impalas?
