Grocery deliveries through the Amazon Fresh service will stop in several markets, including northern Virginia, and Maryland, at the end of the month, according to reports. Users were notified via email today.

Amazon Fresh allows people to buy their groceries online and have them delivered. It costs $14.99 a month and is only available to Amazon Prime members. The delivery service will stop serving some Maryland and northern Virginia neighborhoods at the end of November, according to Reuters.

AmazonFresh has been delivering to areas such as Reston, Oakton, McLean, Fairfax, Arlington, Annandale, Alexandria, Burke, Springfield, Fort Washington, Woodbridge, Dale City, Suitland, and more.

you can't open a place LIKE THAT for a month and close

i only heard articles they might do it, never knew the price ($16 a month to avoid many trips to store - maybe worth it if they can keep up with enough deliveries to keep it fresh)

if I did know the store had opened i'd have to get amazon prime and sign up - that might take me months to decide if this service is "one for me" and then actually get the paper work done to begin using it.

---------------------------------

they opened and shut doors before their potential customers even realized what was going on

this would be like opening an auto part store and closing it before anyone who knew the auto part store was there (ie, by line of sight - which is very few people) had anything to replace

the unfortunate truth of market survey is you can't know if the general public will order a service just by having a sign on a building for a few months. you could at best learn how many people who are walking are interested in the idea (but likely won't get sales, since it's a "whole different way of life" - they'd have to think about it, gas costs, limitations, whether certain family members are addicted to being "grocery getters", etc)

how long was this place open a few months? even as a market survey i'm not sure it was a proper market survey. i only heard on the news amazon "was trying to open that business" or offering it through amazon - i had no idea they had brick storefronts (i'd thought it would be totally internet based). and i read news less than some but likely more than most.

The only way something like this could work in this area is to do the deliveries in the middle of the night. Traffic is so fucked up around here there is no way to do deliveries during the day. 45 minutes from Tysons to Chantilly..... give me a break.

Mail gets delivered everyday.
Pizza and food gets delivered everyday.
Flowers get delivered everyday.

It didn't make much of a dent in the closing areas. Philly, Parts of NY, NJ, CA, DC, MD, VA.
We have a crowded field with Peapod, Instacart, FreshDirect, Safeway.
They say the purchase of Whole Foods didn't have an effect, but it will be back under Whole Foods in the future.
