6200 block of Bardu Avenue, 4/4/14, 12:23 a.m. On Interstate 495, a police officer observed a Nissan Pathfinder stopped and facing the wrong way. The officer stopped to provide assistance but the driver of the Pathfinder fled at a high rate of speed. The officer pursued the vehicle onto Old Keene Mill Road and then to Bardu Avenue, where it crashed. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by other responding police officers. Matthew T. Heislup, 28, of Alexandria, was charged with DWI, speeding to elude police, reckless driving and refusing to submit to breath test.
