It's like PonyBoy used to say that Bobby Burns used to say..."Nothing gold can stay."

The smell of the clam and shrimp combo reminded me of your mother. Yes, your mother.

Next time try my sister - She cums with tartar sauce and hushpuppies!
NOOOOOOO! Growing up we'd often have Long John's for a Sunday family dinner, so it was nice to go to the only one left for the memories.
The last time I was in there last fall it was looking really rough...weeds growing up thru cracks in the parking lot, paint peeling off the building, and floors that hadn't been swept/mopped in days, so I knew it was only a matter of time until the last LJS got the axe.
It's hard to fuck up fried cod. Any recommendations for a replacement?

I worked at that Long John's in the 80s. The whole crew was high school kids and we had so much fun. It's amazing how long that place lasted. My wife still laughs at me because I had to wear a pirate hat with a built-in ear ring.
Man, I used to go in there and get that platter with two fish pieces and three chicken planks served on a big pile of fries, with two hushpuppies. A nice big box o' deep fried goodness. Probably enough saturated fat and sodium for 5 people. Haven't eaten junk like that in years, but it was good!
I didn't think anyone actually went in there anymore. from the outside it looked pretty quiet. After four decades of deep fry splatter the recesses of the kitchen must harbor living, sentient grunge that will fight eviction. Where will the porky susburbanites go now to stoke up?

Dear Fish and Chips,
The management and staff of LJS Falls Church are sad that you are sad. We were in such a rush to get out of that hellhole that we failed to provide you will a full explanation. You see, our fare never really qualified as fish, or even food for that matter. Oil is expensive, so we changed it once, in 1983. At least half of the TBHQ you injested that we added to the oil to keep it from going rancid will be flushed from your system by 2025, if you drink three gallons of water a day, every day. If you eventually die a horrible, artery-clogged death, again we are sorry and sad. No need to drive your gas guzzler to Dale City. The suet cakes that old ladies set out for the finches is roughly the same stuff that we served, only with less dough and more seed, so better, really. This can be found locally in back yards all over Falls Church. The place needs to be demolished. It is haunted by the ghosts of dead tormented lardbuckets who went there daily years ago, only to find their souls sucked dry and replaced by oozing fat. We're never going back. We are sad, and we are sorry.
Congratulations NOVA, you have just ruined another fast food restaurant. First Jack N Box now Long John Silver's. Pizza hut will soon falter. What is the problem of getting fast food places to stay here. I am tired of the old crap restaurants that have been forever. Bring in the fast food restaurants that they have in the south.
I went this LJS back in 1982 to grab some lunch. After I parked, I was stopped at what was on the sidewalk at the front door - Someone puked a massive amount of chewed fish all over the sidewalk. A couple of shovel loads.
The sight of that white creamy fish puked up, and baking in the summer heat was too much. Never went back to that LJS, or any LJS.

There was also a Hardees in Merrifield at the edge of the center that now has the huge thrift store. I miss their ham and cheese sandwiches and chili dogs. I remember one evening I got the bright idea to get some food then drive behind the shopping center to watch the movie playing at Lee Highway Drive-in for free. That lasted about 5 minutes before the police chased me out.

Arby's is down the street, but I do go in there maybe twice a year to satisfy my beef -n- cheddar cravings. I really want to hit the Roy Rogers down near Kingstown, but the girlfriend refuses to go with me and it's too far to carryout.
I get to travel to Cocoa Beach and there's one there. Much better, like a high class restaurant! Yum! Not greasy, courteous staff (all white and English speaking), table service.
Mikes Deli that is at Rt.7 and West St. next to the 7-11 will be relocating into the Falls Church Long John Silver location sometime next year. They are moving because that area at West St. and Rt.7 is part of the redevelopment all along Rt.7
IMO, LJS location is a poor location, very hard to get in and out of.
Mikes Deli is owned by the same people who own Clair and Dons.
