Which turd will get the nod for the Va. 8th? 03/10/14 is the first milestone
11 go in but only one can come out. Which will it be?
Monday, March 10 could represent the next benchmark moment in the race to succeed U.S. Rep. Jim Moran (D-8th).
That’s the first day Democratic contenders for the seat can submit petition signatures that will place them on the June 10 ballot. Petitions will be filed with 8th District Democratic Chairman Margo Horner.
Candidates have until March 27 to corral enough petition signatures to meet the requirements, but campaigns have reason to move quickly: Candidates will be listed on the ballot in the order their paperwork is filed.
If multiple candidates file the paperwork simultaneously, the State Board of Elections will hold a drawing to determine ballot order, said Linda Lindberg, Arlington’s general registrar.
Under state election rules, Horner will be responsible for certifying that each candidate has filed sufficient valid signatures, although local election offices will be available to provide assistance, Lindberg said.
Eleven candidates have announced plans to seek the Democratic nomination to succeed Moran, who announced in January he would not seek a new term.
