It's not "hype", when you have a fast moving storm system like this:

So fast it had moved through here by noon and is no further threat in our locale. As of 12:30, DC was a;ready in the clear. Get a grip.

You're wrong, tornadoes are not just limited to inside the mass, but also around it as well. Some as far as 20 miles or more depending on the circumstances.

It isn't a mass, it's a line caused by a front, and instability is highest along its leading edge. The rest of the afternoon involves isolated showers. High near 52. Breezy, with a northwest wind at 16 to 21 mph becoming light and variable. We were on the far western edge of the watch area and our time came and went quickly.

tornados are know to touch down in se springfield. saw one but not the lower end of the funnel. and awseome sight.

there's a map of recorded touch down places. like chicken scratch runnign se ne along n. middle va.

tornadoes esp. in this area almost always touch down in the same areas.

s. fairfax and chesapeak etc.

first it's a sunny day at the pool. then it looks like rain. ok still warm. long as there's no lighting right?

then you see this odd scoop that looks large. but it gets allot larger such a size it fills the sky further than you thought clouds could ever be and furthe rthan you can see. the size and impending sense of the thing just can't be explained. it's bigger then fonts of the cloud shapes in florida on a rainy day (ok that's every afternoon right?)

the air and sky then starts changing color the thing is such an overbearance on the nature of things. the whole sky and everything it's lit, everything you see, turns pale green. and you hear noise you don't think should be coming from any fast wind storm you want to be around for.

i forgot. then there's a big downpoor of water, slanted rain, you want to go to the windows and open the door to see it (a little terrified at the same time doing so is a bad idea, you can't help but try !)

but the rain isn't so amazing and stops in minutes. not a big deal part of it, really. allot of water. but the tail end of hurricanes that long passed N.C. put down more really.
