The entire stretch of Ox Rd by the dump comes to mind. What an incongruous mishmash of buildings and businesses...
Then of course there are all the shopping centers around Springfield Plaza, Commerce St, etc... - what a mess. Of course, the county has plans for a renovated Town Center look and feel on both sides of 95/395/495... The entire area needs to be razed and rebuilt, starting with improving roads and traffic patterns.

Parts of great falls and Clifton are nice but the vast majority is overpriced urban sprawl, lacking any sort of character or aesthetic beauty.

Get down under the concrete flyovers, especially after they have attracted every tagger for miles and have been spray painted with all kinds of grafitti and see what you think about tyson's above ground metro fuck then. Just basically, try comparing apple's to apple's. Putting metro above ground at Tyson's didn't do anything to beautify the area.

Anything inside the beltway is pretty much old and shitty looking. Annandale down 236 from the beltway east, Seven Corners, Culmore, Springfield, Bailey's Crossroads, etc.

A tie between the trailer park off of Route 50 in Chantilly or Hybla Valley. At least the trailer park is tucked away.
The neighborhood in Falls Church behind Loehmann's Plaza is like a mini ghetto. Tight roads with way too many cars parked on the street.
Orleans Village at the end of 236 is another. And all of Springfield.

LOL. That would be Broyhill Park, a ground-breaking planned community of SFH's built out mostly in the mid to late 1950's. 1500 sqft homes on 1/4-acre lots. It was cutting edge in its day. IMHO, Bailys Crossroads narrowly beats out the Route 1 area of Hybla Valley. It's a shame, because Ft. Hunt and the area immediately surrounding Mt. Vernon are both pretty nice. The Route 1 area in Lorton South of the Mason Neck Peninsula also gives Bailys a run for the money in terms of unattractiveness.

Route one is cleaning up because all the low income now is going to the other end of the county. It is about time. Soon you will see schools improve. All the schools will be balanced with the low income kids and the non English speaking kids. Get rid of the people in office and get people. In there who care about Route 1.
