Fewer than 500 days remain until Fairfax County and the surrounding region welcome participants from 70 nations around the globe to the World Police and Fire Games.
A total of 12,000 participants and 20,000 fans and family are expected to take part in the event, which outnumbers even the Summer Olympic Games in terms of participating athletes.
The event will run from June 26 to July 5, 2015, with the local area playing host to more than 60 individual and team sports.
“Producing an event of this magnitude requires an infrastructure that spans many multiple disciplines, and we are proud of the team we have assembled,” said Bill Knight, who serves as president and CEO of the initiative.
Athlete registration is set to open in October; county officials expect the event will have an economic impact on the local region of $80 million.
