Officer Faggot pulled me over for going 70mph on 66 inside the beltway. He "paced" me at 70 mph. There was no one in front of me for about 100 yards and it was on a straight section on 66. I have some questions for you seasoned speeders.

1. Is this worth even fighting? This ticket especially annoys me because he didn't get me a good speed.I'm worried the judge might call me a pussy.

2. Cops "pacing" you is enough evidence for a ticket? When did this happen? What if he was accelerating to catch up to me and just glanced down at his dashboard.

3. I really don't want to have to go to court to fight this. Is there something I can do from the comfort of my couch?

If your record is fairly clean, If yes I would just pay it. Otherwise, if you don't mind spending $500 get a lawyer and get it reduced or dismissed.

Last time I looked, Front Royal isnt inside the beltway. Thye pretty much go by the posted speed limit where the offense occured.

My guess would be that your the guy who was weaving his way thru traffic to get to the front of the line. The cop told you that he was having trouble catching up to you because of the way you were driving and rather than write a reckless driving ticket for cutting off traffic he just wrote you the ticket for speeding.

With traffic court, guilty as charged. No intent is required like "criminal cases", so just pay it.

That is pretty stupid though, as 70 mph is the speed you have to drive on 66, to avoid getting hit.

You can take the driver improvement course and go to court. If you show them you completed the class and you don't have much on your record they will probably drop or reduce the charge. I've done it more than once. Since they don't have you on radar if you did nothing and went to court it would probably be reduced just based on your record. A fairfax county cop once told me that even county cops think the VSP are assholes. They don't even give the fairfax cops breaks.

Youve got it backwards. You go to Court first. Then, if you dont have a bad driving record AND you arent a dick in Court, the Judge MAY offer you the Driver Improvement Course. After completing the course, you can just FAX your certificate to the Court and youre good to go.

And you have not done it more than once Sir. DI class is only offered to those who have not taken it before.

Sure you have. Anybody who has been to traffic court in Fairfax County can tell you that the judges tell you right from the start before they call the first case that the courts have no control over traffic points on your license. They also tell you they don't send people to traffic school.

Here's what happens: You go to Court. Your case is called. You are found guilty. The Judge reviews your driving record (which he already has in front of him) and then decides if you are eligible for DI class. You dont tell the Judge a fucking thing...he tells you!

You can always tell the commonwealth attorney that you've taken the class and ask that he reduce it. You go talk to him and negotiate before your case even gets up there. I've done it more than once. He'll look at your record and decide. Of course you can do nothing and wait until you go talk to the judge like Stabitha is suggesting but that's just dumb. Go negotiate with the commonwealth attorney and the judge has absolutely nothing to do with the verdict. The commonwealth will just say he negotiated a deal with you and the judge accepts it.

You can definitely take the class more than once as long as its not in the same year. Had to take it several times to get my points down.

What good is taking the class multiple times (except for removing points). It's the same content over and over again. How many times do you have to hear dont drink and drive and dont text and drive before it sinks in.

I will say the class I took was filled with teenage and 20 something Billy Bad Asses who spent every break bragging about how many times they been pulled over. One kid kept yapping about his "3 in 5" so I finally asked him wtf he was talking about. 3 DUI's in 5 years. He seemed proud. He also had just finished 18 months in the Gray Bar Hilton. Couldnt have been more than 25. A great future ahead of him Im sure.
