How come FairfaxCaps refuses to publish their financial statements? Where are all these contributions going? I smell a rat!

Perhaps if you offer to pay for a salaried bookkeeper and an audit, they will oblige you.

Maybe FairfaxCaps should take $100 from the $150,000 contributions and buy a copy of Quickbooks.

You smell a rat? How about this..FCPS staff have refused to disclose certain info through FIOA requests before and probably still doing that now. Perhaps you could just read some of the posts related to FCPS from the redistricting thread. I smell a school of stinking fish!

$175,000+ has been paid into this so called "organization." Now the economy is going bad they seem to be on another big fund raiser move in the name of so called "the voice of county residents."

This just sounds like three people playing "organization" and scamming residents out of money by posting false rumors on internet boards. It sounds to me like fraud!

You're the fraud, haven't you noticed that Care Bears fit the same fraud description?

So if you know how much has been paid into the organization then you probably know the rest. If people don't feel like they are benefitting from this organization then they don't have to contribute. Simple as that. What business is it of your's?

Robin Hood is right FCPS has far more accountability to this county's residents. If you think there are rats running loose, then ask them to release their hidden budget schemes.

Sounds to me, staff, like you are worried about your Taj Mahal at Gatehouse II.

Has anyone asked FairfaxCaps for the financial statement or are you just running your mouth?

Stop talking out your ass. There is no new fundraising effort from FairfaxCAPS. If there were, it would be on their website and/or mentioned in one of their e-mails. There's nothing new in either.

I checked their website and it appears they are not a charity but a "political" organization. Since any contributions made to them are NOT tax deductable, they are under no obligation to disclose their financial statements to you or anyone other than the government.

Why don't you, anonymous poster, publish YOUR financial information?

Ha-Ha! I can top that with a negative number.

I have not agreed with some of Fairfax Caps stances.

But they absolutely are spot on regarding the Gatehouse II facility and the millions the system want to spend.

This is the absolute worst economy we have experienced (by any number of statistical measures) since the Great Depression.

Virtually every family in the area is going to have to make sacrifices for at least the coming year or more. People have and will continue to lose employment at a rate that school administrative employees, who will largely be protected, cannot fathom. Very few ponder economics and don't realize what kind of suffering 9% unemployment as measured by today's metrics (and with the vast hidden labor pool of illegal workers that do not get reported) engenders.

The County Government will have to make sacrifices too and make tough decisions.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, will send a more arrogant message than if FCPS pushes this Gatehouse II facility lease in this kind of environment. The first priority on spending, and the absolute first priority, must be the classroom and teachers. And the business case justifications that FCPS will invariably gin up don't matter - under any circumstance, this is the time to make do and not incur hundreds of millions in public debt that a diminishing and pressed tax base will have to pay for. The arrogance if they move forward in an economy that may hit 9% unemployment in 2009 would just be stunning, simply and unbelievably stunning.

Given that the real estate market has significantly declined since FCPS first proposed this lease, if they use figures in their business case (you can bet they will) that don't radically reflect the vastly changed market (and it has not hit bottom yet), the arrangements will have all the hallmarks of a poorly negotiated, sweetheart deal. This point is as aside because this deal should even be considered, but if they do so, it will prompt me and others to action.

Agree with all stated, but what does this "action" look like? If approved, what do the citizens do? Just curious, because we will all want to plan for whatever this action looks like?

I am not sure. But I am very familiar with how money and power and brains can work. And access to all three is for the taking.

Great post, Quantum. Good to know you'd lend your energy and intellect to a challenge if the School Board proceeds down such a misguided path.
