Meant to check out Waze to see, but forgot and went to bed.

On 395N at 236, they had traffic backed up to the beltway.

Really? That's almost exactly where they had one a few weeks back. On 236 right next to Pinecrest golf course.

How does one use Waze to find out where checkpoints are?

You have to zoom out and look at your route. You will see reports of police, road obstructions, and traffic. On the comments people will write "checkpoint" but there is no dedicated reporting button for checkpoints.

Be a good drunk and plan ahead, look at your phone before leaving the bar. Once you hear the waze alert you won't know if its a solo cop or full on checkpoint and it will be too late.

If you program in your home address, waze will usually just take you around the checkpoint because of the traffic.
