what ever happened to Shakey's

Shakey's pizza in Annandale was the place for pizza in the 1970s. Then became a lame buffet and karaoke place.

It became MaGills. Same owners, mostly same menu, family run. Shakey's is a franchise and the owners were getting hosed by franchise fees. I'm sure you can still find a Shakey's somewhere else. Perhaps next to a McDonalds or Starbucks.

A bunch of Shakey's still in California. The closest one to Fairfax is in Auburn Alabama....

Wait, are you saying that Magill's serves the same kind of pizza that Shakey's had?

Didn't Shakey's at one time become a Horn & Horn?

I would avoid Magills. If the obnoxious youth tour groups aren't enough...there's always the health code violations to consider.

McGills was a good place I ate there many tims, It closed then opened last year, dont know if its still open, They had excellent chicken soup, home made and chili and pizza and salad and a tortilla soup that was very good.

I do remember when Shakeys was there that was a long time back Piano players in white red striped shirts beer in pitchers good pizza, loud and fun place but it just got old. But I would love to see a place like that again!

Good Food at Horn and Horn I thought. The fried chicken was very good. They were a off shoot of a famous NYC cafe and had no relation to Shakeys.

My favorite Horn and Horn Lunch. I sat down gobbled food, got up for more, Came back to "MY Table" sat down started to gobble more food, something did not seem right, there were dried mashed potatoes on my fork?? Holy shit! I had sat down 1 row over from my seat at some ones place that had left.

If your husband or your boyfriend takes you there, the relationship is over. McGills is disgusting.

I went to the Shakey's on Rt. 1 ONCE. We ordered some pizza, and they immediately went out and planted the wheat for the flour in the crust, and eventually, we got pizza. Slower than Metro is now. Never went back.

There's way to much competition in pizza today.

I think the MaGills location was the "Spaghetti Factory" in the 70's, lotsa cheap pasta and beer. Yelp reviews indicate the owners haven't put much money in the place since then. But what does their business model require in terms ambiance if they specialize in shoveling "food" to 400-person tour groups.

The funniest thing on the MaGills website is the requirement for reservations?
