I planned to pick up some Printer Ink at the Reston Best Buy yesterday afternoon and couldn't even find a parking space. At least 30 cars circled the parking lot and left the area (myself included).

Rather than wait around for a spot to open (along with a dozen other cars) I opted to go to Target to pick up the ink and was surprised to see such a full lot but so few people in the check out lines. p.s. the ink was on sale for the $1.00 less than Best Buy.

Things DO happen for a reason.

I had to go to several Best Buys plus other stores to get the games my kids wanted. I didn't see the big boxes leaving like other years with people loading cars on the curb but I saw lots of activity on little stuff like xbox games.

I'm not surprised about Circuit City since it did make some weird business decisions like having the 2 stores in Tysons. Best Buy has 1 . There are lots of little stores in the malls that always seem empty while others are packed.

Parking was easier in bth Tysons malls this year. I remeber having to wait 40 minutes or more for a spot.

Went to Best Buy a few nights ago, could find anything I had on my list, went to Target and found a few, but still one item left.

Went to Borders and I found it - the DVD has been out for over two years. What is up with the product management systems in these places, they stock the same stuff everyone else has, you can barely tell one store from another as far as their selection goes.

You ain't seen nuthin yet. The coming Depression will have it's own chapter in the history books.

Best Buy is laying off 4000 people nationwide. You're going to see a lot of vacant storefronts in the coming years.

Gardening and marksmanship are going to be the skills you will most need in the coming years...

That's less than four employees per store, and that would assume the layoffs are coming out of the stores and not out of overhead/admin/management.

earlier, around 3pm there was major gridlock in the fair lakes shopping center. may have caused two things: people left their cars and fled. or it scared everyone away.

i live 8 minutes from chipotle, it took me 1 hour to get home. 30 minutes just to get out of the shopping center.

No need for 60 inch HD TVs when you no longer have a house to hang it in.

The CC at Tysons mall is apparently closed. (Or it was at least closing earlier than the one on Rt 7.)

The other one in Tysons has this room where they demonstrate all the audio gear. There's a bigscreen and a couh you can sit in, but directly above the couch there's a loud-ass ceiling fan that runs constantly, so you can't hear anything clearly.

I went to Target on Christmas Eve. It wasn't significantly different than going on a typical Saturday.

I expect by next Christmas weaker retailers like Sears, K-Mart, JCPenney, etc, will be gone. Not sure how Radio Shack's numbers are, but they should be gone, too. There is no purpose for them anymore.

Wow, you mean a Best Buy didn't have many customers mere hours before closing for the night? It must be teh arm@GH3Dd0n!

And no, there won't be a depression. Stop being absurd. Did you also think there would be a draft into the military because of Afghanistan and Iraq?

Sears, K-Mart, JCPenny will be gone in a year? Doubt it. Worst case they'll go Chapter 11 and restructure. It's possible one of them may get picked up by another company.

In this time of "We're a bunch of pussies and we're liking this move to a socialist society where the government saves our asses" I guarantee that if Sears were ever really in danger that they would go to the government for a bailout.

But who will ask me for my zip code when I buy a pack of batteries? And where will I buy my 30-in-1 electronics kits?
