‘Santa’ delivers big win to Chantilly woman

Luck may have run out for our local National Football League team this season, but Elsa Melchor of Chantilly isn’t complaining after the Redskins 2013 Live It ticket she bought Dec. 24 from the Virginia Lottery won her $100,000.
Melchor, a jewelry store manager, stopped by Prime Mart in the Chantilly Shopping Center on Christmas Eve, where she spotted some Redskins 2013 Live It tickets for sale.
“I thought I would just buy one for the heck of it,” she said.
When she scratched the ticket and saw it was a big winner, she didn’t believe it, she said. It wasn’t until she went to the lottery’s customer service center in Woodbridge and redeemed the ticket that she accepted her stroke of luck.
“It hasn’t really hit me,” she said.
Redskins 2013 Live, one of dozens of Scratcher games available from the Virginia Lottery, offers prizes ranging from $5 to $100,000. Melchor is the second player to claim the $100,000 prize, which means one top-prize ticket remains unclaimed.
