For some odd reason, I was reading the Chantilly Times today (don't ask), and they have a list of eight professional baseball players who went to school locally.

C Chris Widger
Chicago White Sox
George Mason University

P Javier Lopez
Chicago White Sox AAA
Robinson Secondary

OF Brian Buchanan
Cincinnati Reds AAA
Fairfax High

C Brandon Snyder
Baltimore Orioles A
Westfield High

P Jay Sborz
Detroit Tigers A
Langley High

P Matt Avery
Chicago Cubs A
Landon Prep

OF Matt Cooksey
Toronto Blue Jays A
George Mason University

1B Chris Looze
Toronto Blue Jays R
George Mason University

P Shawn Camp
Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Robinson Secondary

And San Diego Chargers defensive back Bhawoh Jue graduated from Chantilly High School, class of 1997 (maybe 1998?).

Pretty cool. Anyone else know of any professional athletes who grew up locally?

I'd forget about her, too, if I could. That girl would break even a mirror made of polished steel...

I don't know... I'd have to see a picture of her before I make that judgement.

try again, this thread is about athletes that came up in this area, not people who played for existing pro teams in the area:

Walter Perry Johnson (November 6, 1887 - December 10, 1946) was an American right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball. Born in Humboldt, Kansas, he was a farm boy who grew up to become one of the major leagues' greatest stars. He was the second of six children and his family moved to Orange County, California in 1901, where he attended Fullerton High School. After pitching in the Idaho State League, Johnson signed a contract with the Washington Nationals (later named the Senators) in July 1907.

I think Tom Dolan (Olympic swimmer) went to Yorktown.

US Men's National Team Soccer Coach Bruce Arena lives in Oakton.

I think Kara Lawson (WNBA) went to West Springfield.

Ok, signature changed.

D.C. United player John Harkes (I think he retired) sent his daughter to the preschool that my mom owns.

If this thread were about people who played for local professional teams, I would've just linked to Nationals.com, WashingtonRedskins.com, WashingtonCapitals.com, and WashingtonWizards.com.

Eugene Chung went to Oakton in the late '80s I think, and played football for the New England Patriots. One of my buddies lives in Boston and made a joke about getting "Chunged" the other day (making a terrible draft pick, which EC apparently was), so I got to share that tidbit of information with him.

A pitcher named Matt Prendergast grew up in Herndon and got drafted by the Colorado Rockies a couple of years ago, but as far as I know he never made it out of single A before getting cut.

I don't recall hearing about Jue's DWI on the news, did Nik just provide the first world exclusive news story on this site?

Indeed, a cursory search of the net reveals ZERO mention of Jue's dwi. Lesser players get their DWI's reported on ESPN, how was he exempt?

According to the state's DB a warrant was issued for him on 09/12/05. I wonder what it was for? It was recalled so he settled it apparently.

Anyway, nice scoop Nik.

He is NOT a fag. He is a family man and a good guy.

Atlee Hammaker - Mt Vernon High School
He gave up a grand slam home run to Fred Lynn in the All Star game. Only one in history, I believe.
