So FIOS is finally here. I've been waiting forever.

Called them about the $99/mo. inte/tv/phone bundle.

They said you need a box for each tv. I thought cable ready would work, but confirmed elsewhere they have (or are in the process of) cut the analog RF transmission. On top that the only unencrypted QAM transmission is the local stations.

$10/mo. for each HD box
$7/mo for each SD box
+$10/mo for HD service.

The bill would be well over $150, not including the various fees and taxes I'm sure.

I just figured out it would be cheaper to get FIOS for just inet and keep a limited cable package so I keep my cable ready stuff running. Add voip and I actually end up less than $99 for more service.

Anyway, just a heads up for anyone looking at one of the FIOS packages.

Anybody else keep both services?

I pay less for FIOS then I did for COX and I have faster intranet and more channels. With in the next 2 years even cox will make you take a box and do away with analog cable service.

buy a digital tuner.

So are you saying get Fios for internet, keep cox for cable with a basic service plan? Because I have cox for everything and I am paying to much, even though I have the bundle plan. What's the best price for phone service?

You can get phone and internet for $79.99 with FIOS, which includes unlimited nationwide calling, voice mail, caller id, etc.

I thihnk the cable is cheaper with Cox, depending on how many channels you want.

You're lucky. I live in the wrong zip code - 20191. Neither Cox nor Verizon offers High Speed Internet.

FIOS may be great but the "base price" is misleading. As noted in this thread, its a pretty safe guesstimate that the "final price" will be about 35% - 50% more.

I'm in 20191 as well. Our cable company is Comcast, not Cox, and you can get cable-modem service from Comcast. Verizon DSL is also available. FiOS is very new here, so it probably depends on exactly what neighborhood you're in.

Gravis, RESton Peace, and I have now conclusively proven that cox is quite fast. Now if either of you would like to share how much you pay, then all those verizon people will be shot down.

The modem I uses is the Motorola SB5120, DOCSIS 2.0 about 4 years old.


BTW i only pay for basic cable and the cheap internet (quoted speed is like 10/2 its teh preferred package) . But, with the internet comes free expanded channels as well. No cable box for me. I have called them and the topic that i get free channels from them has come up, they do not care.
