If your kid really really really wants to learn, then they'll take it apon themselves to go the extra step. To be honest, the best school is google.com.

Fairfax County Public Schools don't have any 100% failing schools.

The best open-enrollment schools are probably Langley and McLean. Some parts of the McLean district are somewhat affordable-- there is a risk they might get RD'd into Marshall which is not a bad school all things considering.

Thomas Jefferson tops list of best U.S. high schools

Fairfax Times, December 10, 2008
by Editor

Four Fairfax County high schools have been named to the list of top 100 high schools in the United States by U.S. News and World Report.

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology was named the top high school in the country for the second consecutive year.

"Being ranked as America's top public high school reinforces our belief that our students are ready for challenges that go beyond those measured in ranking systems," said Evan Glazer, principal at Thomas Jefferson. "They perform rigorous scientific research, tackle challenging problems using advanced technology tools, create new activities driven by their curiosity, and engage in socially responsible behaviors to understand how their work can DDE_LINKhelp other people." Ranked 55th on the list of America's Best High Schools is McLean High School. Langley was ranked 76th, and W.T. Woodson was ranked at 90. It marks the first time McLean and Woodson have cracked the magazine's top 100.

U.S. News and World Report uses a methodology developed by School Evaluation Services to assess more than 1,900 schools in 48 states. Criteria include college readiness, proficiency on standardized state tests, and student participation in and performance on Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams.

Schools recognized for meeting specific criteria were designated as Silver high schools, and additional schools were identified as Bronze schools based on their performance on state tests.

Seven Fairfax County high schools received Silver recognition: Chantilly High School, Lake Braddock Secondary School, Madison High School, Marshall High School, Oakton High School, Robinson Secondary School and Stuart High School.

TJ for really special students who like 8 hour-a-day classes.

After that, WT Woodson for the normal folk.

1.) TJ

2.) The rest of the schools, contrary to popular belief, are essentially the same, as they are run by the same bureaucracy.
