MANCHESTER, Maine (AP) -- The skeletal remains found by a hunter in a wooded area of central Maine have been tentatively identified based on a Virginia driver's license found at the scene.

A state police spokesman says Maine authorities are working with police in Virginia to find relatives of the man, whose remains were found Saturday in Manchester, right outside the state capital of Augusta.

His name not immediately made public.

Police say there was no sign of foul play and the remains appear to have been at the scene about 200 yards off a local road for more than a year.

Once the remains are positively identified, investigators will try to retrace the man's steps and find out why he was in Maine.
