Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Voted today over at Oak View Elem. Nobody there!!!! I have never seen such a dismal turnout. Did you vote today? If not, is it because all of the candidates suck? Are you more voting FOR one guy or against the other guy? I feel like I voted for the lesser of 2 evils. Sad times.
"Turnout was steady and, in some precincts, heavier than usual as Northern Virginia voters went to the polls Tuesday morning to decide whether to elect Democrat Terry McAuliffe or Republican Ken Cuccinelli II as Virginia’s next governor and to make their picks for other statewide and local offices as well."
I went around 10:30 and there were only a couple of other voters there. But it was sort of an off hour, not exactly prime time. I rarely have to stand in line for the local elections, so nothing unusual.

At 10:00 AM, we had 140 of our 248 precincts reporting voter turnout numbers. Of the 665,602 active voters in Fairfax, we had 60,602 votes, or a turnout of 9.1%
Keep in mind that's only data on 60% of our precincts.

Off year elections in the commonwealth have averaged 14-18% in the modern era. So considering this was still only morning not even lunch, that is about in line with an average to above average year
While I still think the slimeball from NY will win, these poor numbers during the day have to be concerning to the Dems. After all, he is going for the unemployed freeloader vote, isn't he?
Don't the gainfully employed vote before 7 and after 6?
It was dead at the Mott Center on Braddock. No one even handing out sample ballots. Get out there, people, and vote! Don't let Cuccinnelli win this election.

If I lose even one penny off my welfare check and food stamps obama going to hear about it
This is the first time I have not had to wait. Strange the reports are saying turnout is heavier than normal. Maybe it is heavier in certain locations? But why would that happen?

This is by design.
The General Assembly has barred localities from purchasing new touch screen voting machines, and has mandated that localities move to optical scanning.
These ballots are still electronically tabulated, but we have the added benefit of a paper trail that can be verified after the election, in the event of a recount. This is the first major election (we started the push in the May Vienna town election and June Democratic primary) where we've focused on electronically scanned paper ballots rather than the touch screens.
We are in the process of procuring a new integrated system of optical scanners right now and hope to have that system in place by the November 2014 election.
Paper ballots are the future - it's a blast from the past, but a much safer and secure system.
The place was MOBBED it took 40 minutes to get thru the line and parking was limited unless you want to walk a 1/2 mile! Everyone wanted the Democrat information sheet. No One was talking to the Republicans.
Terry Mac has it in the BAG! Democrats can sit it out!

The last turnout update we have here in Fairfax - with 127 (out of 238) precincts reporting turnout numbers, we are at 36.6%. This was as of 6:00 PM.
Turnout in 2009 was around 41% in Fairfax, so we're getting close to the 2009 numbers. This is clearly lower than 2012, but about what we expect in a gubernatorial year. We had 44% turnout in 2005.
Voted at the Lutie Lewis Coates Elementary School in Herndon around 3 pm. Was pretty dead. Had a democrat operative asking me an innane question like if I needed a sample ballot, prostate massage, and sashimi LOLOL. I said I was fine, thank you.
Then we had the Democratic 'Obvserver' inside. Didn't see a 'Republic' obvserver but didn't look. In and out quickly. No problems.
