Widespread power outages today?
Posted by: First Time Poster ()

This morning my office building in Tysons was without power from 3:49:20AM until just after 6am. At around 10:30 there were two brief power surges at my house near Fair Oaks hospital in 22033 Fairfax.

On my ride to work WTOP reported that there are power outages in DC and at the intersection of 29/15 near Gainesville.

That's a pretty big net for power trouble, from DC to Gainesville. Anyone else experience these today? Anyone have any insight into wtf is going on?

I had two power flickers at my house in Chantilly about 11am. Thank goodness for the UPS or my computers would be going crazy right now.

I live in Vienna, on the Dunn Loring side, and our lights flickered a bunch of times this morning.

However, I don't know if my power issues have any relation to yours. At least once a week, we lose power, have lights flickering, or a brown out. I'm not sure if that's because our lines are overworked, or if trees are hitting the lines.

It's Dominion Power convincing us that we need more transmission lines! :)

Why the surprise? Power outages are typical in third world countries such as this.

Have you noticed that anytime you lose power for more than 3 hours, your next bill will have an insert selling their natural gas powered generators?

They must have a computer database that tracks outages and every address of an area that has a significant power outage in the past month gets one of those inserts in their bill.

Though, I've always been tempted to get one. Maybe if my Christmas bonus is more than $10,000 this year, I'll spend the $5,000 for one of those generators.
