What are these creepy Beetles?

It's definitely not grass lice. The thing is almost the size of my thumb.

How can that be it if it's the size of your thumb? It says they only grow to 2/3 of an inch. You've got tiny thumbs!

My thumbs are rather small. But I thought this bug was at least an inch. I'm admittedly horrible with measurements. Here is one that looks to be similar size in a larger, adult males hand.
