So do you think it's more effective to patrol to look for drunks, or stop people at a checkpoint?
2,239 cars stopped with only 2 DWI charges doesn't sound like a great use of resources...
CHECKPOINT, Route 50 at Stringfellow Road, 10/25/13. Officers conducted a DWI checkpoint searching for drunk drivers. 1482 vehicles passed through. One driver was charged with DWI. Four summonses were issued.
CHECKPOINT, Route 50 at Rugby Road, 10/26/13. Officers conducted a DWI checkpoint searching for drunk drivers. 757 vehicles passed through. One driver was charged with DWI. Eight summonses were issued.

Its not debatable numerous studies have proved targeted patrols are MUCH more effective.
The problem with FCPD checkpoints is they dont advertise them. Checkpoints can reduce drunk driving but they have to be highly advertised to scare people. FCPD however tries to use them to catch people instead of properly using them to reduce drunk driving knowing you arent going to really catch anyone.

It most definitely not a good use of resources, unless of course the purpose is to collect revenue. Why aren't they arresting gang members? Why are they closing down the illegal drug trade? The answer? Ticketing speeders and drunks is fast, easy, and doesn't require much thinking.

No one is complaining about police fighting to keep drunk drivers off the road. It is the sobriety checkpoints that cause the concerns.
