Posted by: Jester ()

Fairfax County Board listens to Reston residents who are looking at legislation to ban trucks, campers, boat trailer etc... from parking over 48 hours in Reston.

Vehicles will be towed.

The problem is that Shadowood only has 1 and 1/2 parking spaces for each condo. When was the last time a family living in a condo only had one car? Most condo's there have two or three cars.

Shadowood should build some type of parking garage.

shadowood is a dump. the people should be safely moved to better quarters, such as an abandoned shack, and the place should be razed.

I'll go one better. Shadowood should be razed with all tenants locked inside.

I don't get why boats are so unpopular in Reston as opposed to other middle class residential communities. Why is tennis in and boating out in Reston? I guess boats would be ok in Annapolis or say Louisa Virginia.

It's hard to find a place to park a semi. My brother drives and the only place we could find for him to park so he could visit was out RT 50 among some dump trucks and by Walmart. We went out and picked him up and brought him back there. From there he departed to cris cross America where he is still. If he came for Thanksgiving we would have to do the same if Walmart is still letting truckers park there.

boats aren't unpopular... we park them in our lakes, not on our streets.

I agree that parking should be banned on Glade and if a condo has more then two cars that means 4 or 5 wetback familys are living there

Only if you are waterfront, though all of Reston pays for the lakes.

I'm sure anyone can pay to park their boat in one of the lakes if they need to. Reston was designed to be all about access, after all.

The ability to park a boat is limited to waterfront property owners who will often go to ridiculuos lengths to park a party boat and up the value of there party. Whether they actually use it with all the cover, battery charged batteries, mold cleaning first is another question.

I'm talking about the working man who dreams of owning a little boat and keeps it on a trailer. He's pushing the family budget just to buy it and fuel it but.....can't park it here. Unless..... you pay for a spot at the good old Reston Association who has found a way to raise still more money.....from boaters.

He could. Making boating more expensive reserved for the very rich. It just gets away from the original idea by Simon that everyone should be able to work and play in Reston. Maybe he should of said tennis players can work and play in Reston.

There's a lot of people that will agree with you SOB. Another group that they don't want to see parked out there is small business trucks. They would want to make it impossible or more difficult or expensive for small businessmen to park anywhere so they wouldn't have to view those unsightly trucks.

You have on the one hand politicians saying small business are a value to communities. They add significantly to our ecconomy. They hire people. But we don't want to see thier trucks parked out there. That not seeing trucks makes it a better community.

If you are a small business struggeling to start or survive it's a problem. If you are well healed but with liberal sentiments it's no problem. We find ourselves willing to demolish segments of society (someone else) until....there's no one left and they are coming after me! All for esthetic reasons.

The lakes of Reston are festering pools of filth. THey are nothing more than runoff containers.

Attempting to play the 'middle class' card regarding a luxury that perhaps 10% (if that) of households own is a little reflective of inflated expectations. Not many 'working men' (with average household incomes of $55k a year or so) can afford boats.

I am more with you on the trucks though -- I assume we're talking about pickups, vans, and even smaller box trucks.

As for condos, I suppose with more twentysomethings moving back in with parents, there will be non-flophouse reasons for having 3+ cars in a household.

Boat owners are not rich. This is a myth. It is one persons hobby passion. My question is why one person's hobby in Annapolis or Central Virginia is accepted but not in Reston? Wasn't it the original goal to live and recreate here?

I wish they would include trailers as well. Where I live, on one small street three large trailers (under 12,000 pounds) are quite litterally "stored" on a state road. Two trailers have not been moved in months.

All of Reston south of the Toll Road should be quarantined and cordoned off

Not really. There's a lot of nice areas in South Reston. Just raze the section eight housing.
