An altercation between two former Langley High School honor students left one stabbed to death and the other charged with murder, according to news reports.

Dead is Mark Edward Waugh, who was stabbed inside a Montgomery County high-rise apartment early Sunday morning, according to The Washington Post. Waugh was a first-year Georgetown University student.

Rahul Gupta, 24, a biomedical engineering student at George Washington University, was being held Monday in the Montgomery County jail on $2 million bond in the death, according to the Post.

Both Waugh and Gupta attended Langley High School in McLean, the Post reported, where they took several Advanced Placement and honors classes together. Waugh was in an after-school robotics club and Gupta played on the varsity tennis team, according to the Post.

Police were called at 3:25 a.m. Sunday, for a report of unknown trouble inside an apartment in the high-rise in Silver Spring, Md., where a party had been underway.

As the officers made their way into the apartment, they saw blood on the walls of the kitchen and living area and saw Gupta covered in blood, the Post reported, citing charging documents.

“I walked in on my girlfriend cheating on me,” Gupta said, according to the charging papers. “My girl and my buddy were cheating. My girl was cheating with my buddy. I walked in on them cheating and I killed my buddy.”

Waugh was a short distance away and was unresponsive, according to the Post.

We need to ban knives now. Why isn't Congress moving to pass common sense knife control. Was this knife purchased at a knife show? Did you know that you can buy a knife from a door to door salesman without having to undergo a background check? How can this be?

By the way, if guns weren't a far, far, far, incredibly far more efficient way to kill people than knives: (1) they never would have come into common usage; and (2) people would own knives instead of guns for self-defense, because they're cheaper, easier to maintain, don't recoil or misfire, don't need to be reloaded, are far easier to conceal, are much less likely to result in an accidental fatality, etc.

They're not the same at all. I'm not necessarily a fan of gun control, but the comparisons to knives and cars are dumb and inapposite, and it makes pro-gun people look dumb.
