How to get "tickets" to Obama at NOVA next week
Posted by: resident ()
Date: February 11, 2012 12:37PM

Guess he's going to be at the Annandale campus next week (week of 2/13) talking about the budget plan. Anyone know how to get a pass if you want to see his address?

TIA

Probably too late.

Otherwise, give lots of money to his campaign.

That, BTW, applies to any appearance by any candidate.

Like all Obama events, you must be "approved' /security cleared. Wouldn't want
anyone who would embarrass the pres. in the crowd. With approval numbers like his this should be common, but when do you hear about it? For those NVCC
students who can still get into the high school pep rally mode of thinking, this will be a "fun" event. For those with reality based ,performance oriented critria for a leader ,it will be another disappointment. There will be one person who will be embarrasing to the speaker, one who can never be excluded-
the guest of dishonor.

Most of the NOVA Annandale campus is a dump except for that theatre, which is pretty small to host a president.

A White House invitation only event. Your campus is being used as an unpaid prop for a made for TV mini-series with specially selected actors to lend an atmosphere of support to a totally fake ass event. Can't these Soviet Union style propaganda dramas be scheduled for a weekend so that the campus can be used for it's intended and taxpayer supported purpose.I can't wait to hear how that budget plan is coming along. Let me guess? "I just need 4 more years to get started on that" Repubs are no better. Real thinking young people are going for RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT in droves. No such staged events are being orchestrated by his campaign. Check it out.

I bet WTL will be in the front row. No different from Obamas visit to Disney World a few months back. The cheering crowd was handpicked by invitation only but the media played it up as if it was just the normal tourists crowd.

I used to hate it when Bushy Bush would come to the Annandale campus! I missed my ENG112 class one time because the whole campus was on lock down. You couldn't even turn down Wakefield Chapel. Funny considering he was giving a speech about public education yet his presence prevented all of us from attending classes that day

I wish the media would offer a disclaimer for these manufactured events. Many who see footage of such carefully scripted docu-dramas with only hand-picked actors cast as "ardent supporters" think that they are seeing an actual event. As with Disney World and all the other pep rallies by this guy and Bush before him ,
they closely resemble Soviet "outpouring of the peoples love" for Uncle Joe Stalin. Likewise the video of professional mourners at the funeral of Kim Jung Il recently in N.Korea , some of whom were imprisoned and beaten for not showing sufficiently believable levels of sorrow.Even the speaker is an actor mouthing the carefully crafted lines calculated to manipulate the most malleable minds. At least there has been progress in the obvious telepropmpter glances so familiar to early performances by this actor.
So ,all you bit-part actors better make it look good ,or you may be "indefinintely detained "by presidential edict or asassinated by remote control drone. At least an event broadcast from Disney World carries an implied message of fantasy. Using a college campus as a prop ,think GMU ,etc, also leads the uninformed viewer to think that this is for real.Do you think any budget questions will be permitted covering the $500 million "Solyndra" theft or the handover of the Federal Reserve and Treasury Depts. to former Goldman-Sachs executives and other campaign contributor sponsored redirection of public funds to private hands. I HOPE for CHANGE.

I'm not going to argue with you cause you could be a troll or just a dumb-ass, either way I won't waste my time. What I will do is provide some delicious copypasta from a brilliant historical figure.

1. "I am not young enough to know everything."
2. "Illusion is the first of all pleasures."
3. "Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live."

Bonus for those who think helping the poor is evil.
4. "What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing."

These quotes all came from the same man who is held in high esteem, I leave it to you to figure out who he is.

Well I am trying to get people to see what's right in front of them. I like the quotes , but as you can see ,I don't need to use the material of others. As to whether I am a dumbass, I'll let my words speak for themselves and let others decide.Do you have words of your own to contribute to the easily proven points that I made or will this be another execise in reciting from "Bartletts " or "Famous Quotes to sound Wise"? No personal attack in return . I think I will quote another anonymous source and call this a "teachable moment"I'm too old to know much , but I'm just talking about what anyone can observe.

"Why" you've got me curious. From whom did "ogien" quote? Also, my approach to
points of view are based on how they stand up to logic and fact checking, not so much the person who created them.
Many original thinkers throughout history have been exiled by existing power structures of their day. Original thought places the status qou at risk. Whatever ones personal religeous beliefs. For example, most would agree that Jesus had some valuable things to say and he was thrown out of many places.

Because he spent time in prison and was exiled. That's why. The fact he wasn't an American doesn't change anything as what we're really discussing is the "Human Condition" and that's pretty much universal.

whomever you are quoting, ogien,it matters not whether one has spent time in prison, was American, was exiled etc .It is the quality of the content of that persons thought that should be examined. My personal opinion is that who one is or what they think is insignificant when compared to "HOW one thinks" Most problems will yield to logical analysis and refusal to get sucked in by emotional appeals. Many revolutionary figures were imprisoned and/or exiled and executed throughout history. Speaking truth to power is dangerous.Emotional manipulation is their favorite tool, becaue it works on the majority of the population.

I agree completely with Blake Lane 73: "I wish the media would offer a disclaimer for these manufactured events. Many who see footage of such carefully scripted docu-dramas with only hand-picked actors cast as "ardent supporters" think that they are seeing an actual event. As with Disney World and all the other pep rallies by this guy and Bush before him, they closely resemble Soviet "outpouring of the peoples love" for Uncle Joe Stalin."

And since we're tossing quotes around, here are some more quotes from the same writer [Hint: Initials are O.W.] cited by Ogien.

* Illusion is the first of all pleasures.
* Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious.
* Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.

And in keeping with Ogien's bonus question:
* America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between.

To continue this thread, here are a few quotes by someone else who I prefer a bit more than OW:

* A good politician is quite as unthinkable as an honest burglar.
* An idealist is one who, on noticing that roses smell better than a cabbage, concludes that it will also make better soup.
* Each party steals so many articles of faith from the other, and the candidates spend so much time making each other's speeches, that by the time election day is past there is nothing much to do save turn the sitting rascals out and let a new gang in.

And your bonus quote:
* If a politician found he had cannibals among his constituents, he would promise them missionaries for dinner.

"Kung Fu" Also "Age and cunning often beat out youth and skill" or "Paper beats
rock but not scissors unless you are trying to start a fire." Do I sound wise now? What in the hell were we talking about anyway? Oh. yeah pep rallies ,right?

It looks like the main thing is his proposal to lower the corporate income tax rate to 25-29 percent while ending the deferral of taxes on profits retained in foreign subsidiaries by US multinationals. He would reap a one-time windfall in 2013 from all the taxes that were previously deferred.

I truly hope that you are 100% correct in your statement. I hope that those "who will be attending this spontaneous outpouring of love" will not forget to vote in Novermber. The idea of Romney or Gingrich as president is enough to send many Republicans running for the hills so you can imagine how much Democrats don't want them.

For those of you praying for a Republican victory in November I'd like to leave this quote just for you:

"When the gods wish to punish us, they answer our prayers."

Ah yes, we should reward those who seek to decieve us with fake events and to reward their political contributors with our money. Enough with the quotes please. It fits with the Soviet Union style rally packed only with supporters. Just keep repeating the timeworn phrases and everything will be fine. I have to agree with the criticism of the Repubs ,as they are the same sort of craven criminals. They too have mindless zombies who will support them despite the obvious facts. If we pray at all ,we should pray that another last minute war isn't declared to save another pathetic mouthpiece of big money? A few tears for the heroic struggle of the welfare recipient in chief please.Throw all these bums out of public housing especially the White House.Even fools like "resident " will probably still vote again. The major flaw with democracy is that it rewards the masses with their average intelligence.
