It's because of parents like you who have poor grammar and don't prepare their children enough for school. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree my friend.

My wife is a Kindergarten teacher and I hear all of her complaints. There's handfuls of kids that come in and don't even know the alphabet and little alone can't even spell their own name.

Send your children to preschool prior to kindergarten. It makes a huge difference.

THERE'S handfuls of kids THAT come in and don't even know the alphabet and LITTLE ALONE can't even spell THEIR own name.

Did YOU fail kindergarten? Are you a fifth grader now? Is English your native language?

There is handfuls? They ARE handfuls (poor word choice, by the way).

Kids WHO, not THAT.

LITTLE ALONE = let alone? Spell his or her name.

"don't prepare their children enough for school." = fail
"There's handfuls of kids..." = fail
"know the alphabet and little alone can't..." = fail

Have your wife explain to you your grammatical errors.

Dear Lord, please don't let dumb question look for a job teaching, interacting with children, communicating, leading or managing. Guide him to a repetitive, menial, yet satisfying, job with Obamacare benefits and a short commute.

I think dumb question has shown us what happens to people later in life after they fail kindergarten.

There's nothing wrong with repeating kindergarten. Some parents find their kids aren't mature enough for the next grade. The bigger problem that I see is with the stats for high school.

hard to decide what's funnier -- the grammatical stupidity of the OP lamenting failing kids, or the grammatical errors of the people correcting his grammar.

I think even funnier is your stupidity in not understanding what the OP wrote or the definition of the word "lamenting." The OP is only pointing out that 166 kids failed Kindergarten and asked how. There was no lamenting there.

Definition of lament:
to express sorrow, regret, or unhappiness about something.

There was no emotion in the OP's post. So no sorrow, regret or unhappiness.

Some students aren't ready for first grade. The reasons may be more social/behavioral than academic. I'm sure that staying in kindergarten an extra year is much better than experiencing failure in later grades. The number actually seems low when you think about how much this could benefit some children.

I failed kindergarten 20 times. When I went home, I told my mom that I had the biggest dick. She wasn't pleased and said "Well of course you do, you are twenty five!"

Kids still crapping in their pants/Pull Ups.

Also assume if you check the schools, they will be in areas of town with a lot of ESOL/Minorities that have not been in the country for very long.

Kindergarten skills are foundational. If your kid doesn't absolutely have them down cold, best to take a repeat year.

Also, some kids are just generally more compliant with school-based learning than others. Frankly, given all we hear now about the health perils of sitting all day, the wiggly kids who drive teachers nuts may be on to something.

Most 5th graders can read at a higher level than typical Howard University students. Don't let your head get too big.

NVCC doesn't count.

Its because they don't speak English at home and then are lost when they enter Kindergarten. Hard hearted Conservatives like me think parents should take English classes and try to learn the damn native language so that their poor kids have some chance of succeeding. Not to is the ultimate in selfishness.

Regret is an emotion?
