I am crying right now. I wish there way a to make sure only smart people could vote. I can't live in this county anymore if people votes yes.

I am begging you to vote NO. Please vote NO. PLEASE VOTE NO NO.

The 2013 proposed bond referendum includes approximately $42 million for two new elementary schools (one in the Bailey’s Crossroads area and one in the Route 1 (Richmond Highway) area; $271.7 million for renovations, including $156.2 million to renovate Terraset (construction), Haycock (construction), Ravensworth (construction), Woodlawn (construction), Forestville (construction), North Springfield (construction), Springfield Estates (construction), Keene Mill (construction), Bucknell (construction), Cherry Run (planning), Waynewood (planning), Stratford Landing (planning), Newington Forest (planning), Hollin Meadows (planning), White Oaks (planning), Mount Vernon Woods (planning), and Belle View (planning) Elementary Schools; $38.6 million to renovate Thoreau (construction) and Rocky Run (planning) Middle Schools; and $76.9 million to renovate Langley (construction), Herndon (planning), and Oakton (planning) High Schools.

$24.6 million is included for infrastructure management, including roof replacements, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) replacements, athletic infrastructure, security enhancements, asphalt paving, technology upgrades, and upgrades required by the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).

The 2013 bond referendum also includes $8.2 million for capacity enhancements at Westbriar Elementary School and South Lakes High School, and $10 million for site acquisition costs for a new high school in the south west part of the county. In addition, unspent proceeds from prior bond issues have reduced costs for this bond by $109 million.

I'll do one better, vote No on ALL BOND REFERENDUMS!!!

Bond Referendum is a fancy name for borrowing money people. If you vote yes then you're giving the country permission to borrow money on your behalf that you have to pay back later. Just say NO.

Where do you propose we teach those children whose parents pay taxes in the county? Should we close the borders here, too?

Honestly, you could prob get a better education online these days without ever having to enter the liberal reeducation centers.

Khanacademy
Coursera
Edx
Google

Keep using the archaic designed public school systems and then scratch your heads when China has more kids learning to code than we have kids who have ever heard of programming....

Public schools served the function of bringing literacy to the avg person but the model is broken, outdated and technology provides us with much better alternatives.

To be honest I haven't, but We don't have to spend my money on this. Maybe the PTA can ask for Donations

Or they can cut spending from another area and reallocate the funds to fix the schools.

Like all gov't's Fairfax County has a TON of waste and unnecessary spending. I'm sure they could find the money if they really WANTED to, but I doubt they do. Its easier just to run up some more debt.

We all know you are full of shit. You are going to whine and complain about a bond referendum that will easily pass. Then, rather than leaving this county (since you couldn't live here if people vote yes), you are going to spend another year whining and complaining from your mother's basement until next election day when yet another bond referendum will be on the ballot and it will once again pass easily.

They really have no reason to want to since their request for more is approved every time. That just continues the cycle getting more wasteful as time goes on since as far as theyre concerned they have an unlimited supply.

The problem is that many who will vote "yes" on the borrowing and send their kids to FCPS schools don't actually pay any taxes at all.

Yes, lets deny a bond referendum for a capital project which is long overdue due to overcrowding in our schools, at a time when borrowing money is basically free.

Lets instead listen to this moron, take the bond up in 10 years when interest is double the rate it is today, and end up paying a total loan amount 3 times what we could right now. Yay now that is good conservative business savvy huh?

Fuckin moron

Can't anybody here play this game? If you clowns are going to keep having babies and building new stuff to attract new businesses and their workers and families to the area, you are going to have to support and expand the public school system. These are capital costs. They return benefits over not just years but decades, which is why it is appropriate to pay for them the same way. This is exactly what ordinary people do when they use credit to acquire such big-ticket durable items as homes, cars, HVAC systems, refrigerators, or washer-dryers. Bring a little intelligence to the table at least.

Interesting that $10 million from the bond is reserved for the South-West High School site... I've not heard anything about where that potential site might be, but it's nice that the planning is in process to relieve the overcrowding sooner rather than later. Anyone know anything more about the new SW High?

Take up a collection among the families whose children currently attend those schools. Or close down the Fairfax Gov't center and sell the land. Pimp out the teachers on the weekends...

I don't really give a shit, just don't borrow money or raise taxes to do it.

The average size of a high school site is 47 acres. I can't think of any contiguous undeveloped area in the southwest part of the the county that is 47 acres. Where do they expect this school to be built?

I think there are plenty of undeveloped 40-70 acre tracts in and around Clifton - but the one-lane roads all around that area there don't lend themselves to such an endeavor. Not without a massive infrastructure rollout which the well-heeled community will surely fight hard to prevent!
