Hey dumbasses, drinking at a youth football game is not cool, you losers, then you drive your kid home. Great example you’re setting.

Please contact the people below to express your concern with adults getting drunk at youth football games. (FYI, they will defend because they’re drinking too). Great tradition at youth football in CYA (See corner tent at Greenbriar)

This needs to end!!!

I agree wholeheartedly. In addition to contacting the club, make it a point that you intend to contact the organization's sponsors with the appropriate complaint about the games becoming a beer bash. I can assure you that even if the club does not care about enforcing a decent environment for the kids they will respond to being hit in the wallet!

Fuck the kids? The question isn't whether they will understand, it will be whether you understand seven or eight years from now when you are dealing with drug abuse problems and all of the associated bullshit and your kid says "fuck it," its Sunday and I'm going to chill out.

Fuck the Kids. Sunday is a day for football and beer. I work hard all week and pay the fucking bills. Enough raising a bunch of tender foot pussy kids. Do you think the parents had a few beers back in the "greatest generation" days?. your damn right they did.
So keep coddling your kids, They will be living at home in your basement until they are 40.

You got it backwards, its those parents who are drinking at the game that are still mooching of their parents. They probably live miserable lives, hate their jobs, etc... and they're leading their kids down the same path. Those are also the kids that will drop out of organized sports in high school to go out and get drunk, high etc.. We can sit here and debate the who, what, where but the bottom line is there is no need for alcohol at youth games, period. Its really sad.

Just a thought, but CYA is having their annual meeting in a couple of weeks in which the President is up for election. If the membership believes that it is proper to turn youth football into a keg party then that is their choice and their officers should be reelected. I am just expressing my opinion but I think that it is sooo terribly wrong.

As long as they arent getting hammered and driving home or making asses out of themselves because of it theres nothing wrong about it. Its no different than any professional game and the idea that kids have to be sheltered from everything is what makes them kill themselves when they get to the real world or be raging alcoholics in high school and college being exposed to it for the first time.

Problem is people are getting hammered......HAMMERED!! Amen. It would be different if they could handle themselves, some can't so it ruins it for all. I have seen people passed out and puking in the parking lot at that field. If this is your filtering system to teach kids the real world you don't know that real world. There are a lot of problems here. First, I believe that FCPA must grant permits for use of alcohol at Greenbriar Park as well as a general prohibition of the use of alcohol at Fairfax Youth Football League practices. At the very least CYA should be responsible for obtaining the necessary permits and making sure that the kids are not being transported home from the games by a trashed parent. If permits are being granted and some of the abuse that is being discussed here actually exists the problem extends beyond CYA and to the approving umbrella organization as well as the Park Authority.

You have it backwards, granted permission makes CYA liable. Not granting it protects them saying they dont condone it if it happens.

No one really cares about alcohol use permits anyway. You arent supposed to tailgate at pro games or Jiffy Lube Live but tons of people do it.

Its not CYAs job to baby sit parents. They can make their own decision. Their job is to provide the league and keep the actual game safe. If someone gets rowdy throw them out, other than that parents are adults who can make their own choices.

I read all the threads and had 2 kids go thru CYA sports. Not sure why Football is being singled out... there is drinking at almost all of the spring and fall sports in almost every the youth program in FFX. It is pretty evident this was started by a disgruntle parent with a personal agenda against Football. When my kids played and from I understand now... SYA, Herndon, FPYC and all the other programs have the same issue. And this is not new folks... Adult VOLUNTEERS have been tossing down a few at Greenbriar, Poplar Tree, E.C. Lawrence for over 30 years. Again... someone has a personal agenda and needs to man up and make the call to someone in charge instead of trying to broadcast and bad mouth one of the best youth programs in the Country - CYA!!!!

I agree that a beer or glass of wine is fine at events, but I was struck at some of the phrases that were used. The phrases "a few beers", and having a keg at the clubhouse is a tradition struck me as something that made the original post credible. Keep in mind that a quarter barrel is a minimum the equivalent of 80 12 oz. cans of beer. Lastly, and most importantly, it is totally outrageous that the focus of this entire thread is on the importance of drinking at the football games and not on the kids.

You made drinking the focus, CYA does a good job with the games so whats there to talk about unless youre going to complain about bad officials?

Clearly the person didn't grow up in Chantilly or FFX county. Chantilly and the Chantilly country club area are the mecca for adult drinkers.

Fairfax county's history is based on drinking. Some of the best whiskey and beer in Virginia originated in FFX county.

George Washington had one of the first whiskey distilleries at Mount Vernon and it still operates today. Reston for years had the Bowman whiskey distillery.

You can't have Fairfax county without some drinking.

A message from the Fairfax County Youth Football League.

FCYFL football games are played primarily on County and School properties. The use of alcohol is strictly prohibited on these premises, and the FCYFL stands by this rule. The twenty-two clubs that make up our league are keenly aware of the rules prohibiting alcohol consumption, and quite frankly it's never been an issue since people understand what's expected. When we became aware of the "chatter" that occurred on the Fairfax Underground we contacted the officials at CYA, who had already heard about the discussion. They have distributed an e-mail to all their coaches, team representatives, and parents reminding them that drinking is strictly forbidden at Greenbriar Park.

The wives there are so ugly that the men need to drink. Those women can pass for ugly truck drivers. Between the football players that ought to play soccer and the women that are arguments for why all women should wear burqas there is a need for alcohol for CYA. Poor CYA guys. Drunk and lonely.

How bad would life be without beer. I used to work an overnight shift at a job. I would drink in the car on the way home. Since I had to sleep in the daytime nothing put me to sleep faster in the AM than a few beers. I always wondered in the back of my mind if a cop was to stop me and think WTF its 8am and this guy is already throwing em back. I mean for as hard as people work to stay afloat these days please do not deprive them of lifes simple pleasures.

The county is filled with a bunch of whiny babies. They are not going to do anything. We've been doing CYA for years and will continue to have our kids in the different sports. I and others will continue to drink, smoke and do whatever the hell we want. Fairfax will never pull the use permits. So nothing will ever happen. Ever!

So suck it Fairfax. And suck it OP. You are a loser.

Cya has been an outstanding program and ill be damned if some stuck up parent is gonna sit here and give cya a bad name. Get a life and go to another program if we're that bad.... fyi in the 15 years ive been around cya (since I was about 10) ive never seen a coach drunk, puking or passed out!!!!

The good alcoholics never pass out or puke. Puking is just wasteful.

How many parents have you seen drunk, puking and passed out? It must be a lot. You didn't mention them.

Is it just me or do others think it is a bad idea to call your little club "Cover Your Ass (CYA) Football?"

Perhaps this was created in response to the Penn State scandal, where covering your ass was a the only way to get through the season intact.

Be careful out there!

I can't go and root for my kids and rant at the officials and players on the other side like I would any other football game because it might offend someone. I can't sit back and down a few and shoot the shit with other parents because it might offend someone. If you find everything I do there offensive, why did you want me there in the first place?

I can't tell who's being serious here and who's just throwing out comments to get a rise out of people.

I will say this: If you need a drink to enjoy your kid's football game, then just skip it, stay home and watch TV instead. Stop creating trouble for your kid's team. Let your kid play the game without the distraction of his dad's embarrassing behavior.

As for ranting at officials and opposing players, again it's about not causing trouble. @FFPP: If you feel like you really need to act in ways that insult the people around you, then nobody wants you there.

Just don't be an asshole. Not that hard. The whiners here are the ones who don't seem to want to learn respect.

We take the safety and credibility of CYA seriously. The points raised on this forum are serious and troubling. After careful reflection CYA will make the following changes:

1. At least one family member over the age of 11 must abstain from alcohol during all CYA sanctioned events.
2. CYA will enforce the use of appropriate containers for the consumption of all legal beverages. Examples of approved containers are Starbuck's cups (with lids), Dunkin Donuts cups, metal bottles without beverage company logos, Sesame Street sippy cups, baby bottles. Other containers will be considered on a case by case basis.
3. Use of illegal narcotcis will be confined to areas under bleachers or in nearby woods. If neither are present please use port-a-potties.

These changes will not be easy. But it is for the good of the program. All changes will be implemented by November 2014.

All CYA uniforms will carry a patch similar to the football patch presented here. This shows our commitment to the local community.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Jesus christ, you're all a bunch of bottom-feeders. Always have been, I used to just laugh driving past Carl Davey Field. The fact that you drink at the games is as hilarious as it is pathetic (I couldn't care less that you drink) and the fact that you come here to talk about it is also hilarious. The games and talent is meaningless at that age and you all use it as a platform for your bullshit egos. Enjoy!

Haven't you seen the "Caught on Video" shows with youth football parents getting in brawls?? It just attracts trash. Half of the kids don't even want to be out there, pot-belly dad just wants his kid to be the next big thing!
