Sugary sodas will be removed from vending machines at seven Fairfax County high schools this school year as the administration tests a possible ban on sodas throughout the school system.

The pilot program will remove high-calorie sodas from machines at Chantilly, Falls Church, Langley, Marshall and West Potomac high schools along with Lake Braddock Secondary and the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. In all, about 30 percent of the county’s high school students will not be able to purchase sugary sodas at school.

Soda machines in teachers’ lounges won’t be affected.

In place of sodas, they will be stocking the vending machines with estrogen-laden Obama-commie, sugar-free Kool-Aid.

Why only 7 schools? If you think its bad for the kids in those schools, it's probably bad for all of them, don'tcha think?
Kind of late to the game as well, MANY districts across the nation have taken sodas out of vending machines years ago...

A large number of the schools in FCPS banned sugary drinks in past years. Some might still have them but a lot don't

As long as the schools will still get their turf fields then I'm done with that.

someone must think that sugary drinks dissolve turf fields, but the turf fields aren't happening as the purchase violates the "Buy American" rule in Fairfax.

If my did wants to down a COKE after school-who the hell are the NAZIS in FCPS to stop them?

You guys worry about the kids dealing heorine and raping girls on weekends and filming it ok?

Maybe if my did didn't have to wake up at 530 to be at the bus stop at 630 to get to school by 710, they wouldn't have a caffiene addiction at age 14.

In a totally unrelated announcement, Starbucks announced it will start a pilot program opening express coffee shops in seven Fairfax County schools just coincidentally including Chantilly, Falls Church, Langley, Marshall and West Potomac high schools along with Lake Braddock Secondary and the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.
