A person walking on the shoulder at this location was struck by a hit and run driver. State Police continue to investigate.

Nobody deserves to get hit by a car, but walking down the side of 66 at 5am in the dark??? You're asking for a disaster

This. Walking down any interstate in NoVA is asking for disaster no matter what time of day. No excuse for hit and run, but it was probably someone who was drunk. Lots of auto-pedestrian deaths happen around this time due to drunk driving.

Most of it is over now - Just those last few morsels to be shoveled into the stainless steel pan, then it is off to the medical examiners office for a cause of death.

> The most tragic thing of it all, is reading these inhumane messages that are posted, all except maybe two. It's a shame that we've been reduced to madness with no compassion and respect for life. It doesn't make any difference why that young man was out there at that hour in the morning, he lost his life. That warrants at least a prayer in passing a gruseome scene like that. Couldn't you at least say, "May his soul rest in peace". The use 'F' four letter word in your commenary, as if to say you are bothered that a fatal accident held you up -- I would be very careful with what spews out of your mouths!\

" It's a shame that we've been reduced to madness with no compassion and respect for life."

What "compassion" is worthy for one willing to do the most stupid of acts? He had no respect for his life, and his time was up.

Reality, it's a bitch.

How could you possibly hit someone and not stop, irrespective of the circumstances (possible suicide). Who does that?

Probably because it is dark outside at 5 in the morning and a truck driver would not notice the bump as any different from all the rest of the bumps on 66

If one of my units malfunctioned, it's best that the unit removed itself from the Matrix rather than burden society.

Welcome to Fairfax Underground...you must be new here.

Their job is to die and our job is to flame their corpses...and we DON'T apologize for it ever. If you have a loved one that dies publicly...I would avoid this forum for 5 years following their death.

Illegals with no license, no insurance, and no right to be here.

I suspect it was a door to door meat salesman in a rush to get to the next sale.

He is overstocked, and his boss wants him to discount the meat just to move it out.

It was 17-year old Christian Bylund, a rising senior at Chantilly HS.
He had experienced his fair share of run-ins with the law in his short life and had just used his last strike.
He apparently saw suicide as the only way out, but the method of suicide is quite original.....
All you assholes out there that are complaining because you were late for work, a meeting, or a coffee date need to shut the fuck up because your "problems" don't matter!

According to an unofficial Chantilly High School blog, he was a varsity wrestler and junior varsity lacrosse player (http://thepurpletide.com/wordpress/2013/08/13/senior-killed-on-route-66/ -- currently down, but http://www.tripleedgelax.com/2011_Fall_VA_Boys_JV_Schedule.htm has him in the JV roster).

The police say they're investigating it as a suicide, which is interesting. Nick Stuban, if you recall, was a lacrosse player and committed suicide (http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read/2/488541.html). I wonder how many teen suicides in Fairfax County are connected to lacrosse? Of course Stuban had other problems, and of course most lacrosse players in FFX county don't commit suicide. But, suicide can become epidemic among teenagers, and lacrosse is a tight community. Just sayin'.
