Because he isn't going to get free stuff soon enough. The GOP House may be very obstructionist, but at least it wants to re-examine the idea of funding the lazy vs. supporting the poor.

If we were to believe liberals no one on welfare is scamming the system.

Eh, depends on how you look at it. If you look at Medicaid expansion, then yes. The government is capable of aiding people so that they can aid themselves. There's a good way to do it and a bad way to do it.

Sometimes, the GOP fucks the poor. Sometimes, the Democrats fuck the poor, though not as directly.

This is where we're all disserviced by the Conservative "talking heads". While they like to paint us all as favoring “free stuff” with a broad-stroke, it's far from true.

If you can find ways to eliminate fraud without starving those who really need help, I don't think you'll find ANYONE who stands opposed - of course, I don't count those who are committing the fraud, who often bill themselves as "liberal", too.

Remember: the last meaningful Welfare Reform actually happened under Clinton - a Democrat.

The problem in the historic GOP approach is that it's been "all or nothing", and "innocents be damned". If you'll stop assuming that we're unreasonable and in favor of unwarranted hand-outs, we may find some common ground where progress can actually be made.

Clinton wasn't a liberal. He was a centrist democrat who put politics above ideology.

Nothing is free in life. You want food stamps? Work for them. Even if it means going down to the local park and picking up trash 3 days a week. Support government programs that put people to work, not give them stuff.

" You want food stamps? Work for them. "

That's a nice sentiment, and I agree with you. But a few months ago Obummer removed the requirement that Bubba put in place requiring foodstampers to even pretend to be looking for work.

Now they can just sit back and relax, smoke crack and have mo babies.

No he didn't. He gave some states - at their request - the right to determine eligibility. He did not "remove the requirement" to look for work. Why do you people keep making shit up?

Hate on the rich but without them who would pay for your food stamps and welfare.

Typical carefully considered, nuanced answer from one of our most reliably bigoted posters.

Despite the fact he was under constant attack throughout his presidency for the non-existent Whitewater scandal, I think his was probably the greatest Presidency of my adult life.

On this, I agree.

But I challenge you to name a government program that DOES put people to work.

When they were out hiring people for part-time Census work, I found myself thinking "WTF?".

There were plenty of out-of-work folks who we were already paying and could've actually benefitted from putting SOMETHING on their resumes to shake the "long term unemployment" bias that they face. Many people who were collecting unemployment would've been effectively penalized for accepting this work.

Until some common ground can be found, nobody is going to make progress. The tug-of-war between the far-left and far-right ends up going nowhere.
