I would also like to know of such a company. The best way to ensure quality is to stand over them as they deliver with a measuring tape and refuse to let them unload anything that's over-sized or bad. Time consuming, but worth it.

What ever happened to the guys that would drive through your neighborhood with a pickup truck full of wood, asking if you "want to buy some fi-ah-woood"?

There is plenty of firewood available right here in Fairfax County
if you're willing to do some work. Stack it yourself, that way you
know its right.

Thanks Paul, but I'd rather not cut, haul, season, and stack a cord of wood myself without a chain saw, axe, sledgehammer, wedge, and wheel barrow; not when I can pay someone else to do it. That way I can get what I want accomplished and they can earn some money.

Bob: I don't know. I prob missed em this year cause of my strange work schedule. I'd consider them if I could find em again.

We used to make fun of those guys in the early 80's. They were usually missing a tooth or three, and they always said the same thing, "want to buy some fi-ah-woooooood?".

You could almost hear the dueling banjos playing in the eight-track in their pickup.

But, yeah, they did sell seasoned firewood, for the most part. And they always helped stack it in your backyard. I'm not saying they were ripping people off, but they were a definite caricature of hillbillies.

I checked and there are a few people offering wood for sale, but I was looking for a specific character reference sorta thing. I've been (pun intended) burned by random dealers before.

Thanks StiX, but I was looking for already seasoned hardwood, and I don't have a truck or any ability or time to cut it myself. Hopefully someone else found this helpful though.

I know of a good wood guy. He's been my neighbor for over 15 years. He's decent, honest and a very respectful guy. He won't cheat you on your purchase. If you're interested in getting his number, email me and I'll give it to you. Also, you may use my name when ordering and he might cut you a good deal. He's an older white gentleman but will get the job done right. Nothing shady about this inividual at all but I'll let you make that "call". Let me know. He's located in the Franconia area. Hope this helps you cold people..lol!!

Here is our guy... he's great. Drives to your house and stacks it for you neatly. We've bought wood from them 5 years in a row, now.

I just wait for my neighbor to chop all his wood up, then I borrow a few giant pieces.

There was already another thread like this.

I am a college student and I have been selling firewood for years. You can check out my landscaping company's website http://greenshoeslandscape.com

I am honest, I pride myself in my work, and I will give you fair prices. You can pick up or I can deliver (and stack if you want). All my firewood is seasoned and is truly great wood. It is dense so it lasts long but it also lights easily.

Go ahead and check out my site and contact me if you are interested.

We bought almost a Chord from your guy. We have used one camp fire starter and then moved on to approximately 1/2 a Dura log. The wood hisses (water bubbling) but will not catch. I am out more than $300.

The Dura Log just burned out after an hour and now the wood just sits all CHARRED and STILL it is not burning

People are very nice and do stack neatly but what good does that do when the wood won’t burn.

A chord? That's the problem then. Never buy firewood from a musician.

I realize this is a rant from a outdated post but thought it was relevant. If it hisses its green, not seasoned, 2nd with the infestations of ash borer you cannot legally transport wood in from out of the area so you need to find legal firewood locally http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/news/2009/emerald-ash-borer-firewood-quarantine.htm No I am not plugging a company Saunders does well to deliver it to your driveway, stacking is up to you, I get mine from local trees in the neighborhood that tree companies are cutting down, they all know I heat with wood and it saves them Dump Fees to drop it off here, I Split it myself. Much better for the Environment and my wallet. A Cord should run about $225 - $250. 4'x 4'x 8' if its in the back of a pickup and stacked 2 feet above the bed then your close to a cord, not the width of the tailgate x 2. I have seen it all. Oak, Ash, Elm and Locust are the best woods, Poplar and Maple are soft and great to start but not heat. http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/consumer/education/firewood.pdf
