I realize this is a rant from a outdated post but thought it was relevant. If it hisses its green, not seasoned, 2nd with the infestations of ash borer you cannot legally transport wood in from out of the area so you need to find legal firewood locally
http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/news/2009/emerald-ash-borer-firewood-quarantine.htm No I am not plugging a company Saunders does well to deliver it to your driveway, stacking is up to you, I get mine from local trees in the neighborhood that tree companies are cutting down, they all know I heat with wood and it saves them Dump Fees to drop it off here, I Split it myself. Much better for the Environment and my wallet. A Cord should run about $225 - $250. 4'x 4'x 8' if its in the back of a pickup and stacked 2 feet above the bed then your close to a cord, not the width of the tailgate x 2. I have seen it all. Oak, Ash, Elm and Locust are the best woods, Poplar and Maple are soft and great to start but not heat.
