How can VA implement HOV restrictions on I-66?
Posted by: WUT ()

This post isn't a result of sour grapes over a $200 ticket (or whatever the ridiculous fine for a first-time HOV violator is), but how does the Commonwealth of Virginia have the balls to add poorly-marked HOV restrictions to a FEDERAL interstate?

Poorly marked? If you can't see any of the signage indicating that the road is HOV, you have no business being on the roads. Do us all a favor and stick to public transit.

You're not addressing my original point (which is still valid considering how many people I know that have gotten them). Hop on the GW Parkway and take the first left exit onto 66. The signage is non-existent.

And if you could explain how VA can implement misguided commuter restrictions on a federal highway originally intended to make inter-state travel more convenient, I'd appreciate it.

Buy a map because the GW Parkway doesn't intersect 66.

Because the Federal Government transferred the authority for the operation, maintenance and construction of I-66 between Rosslyn and the Capital Beltway to Virginia.

"Hop on the GW Parkway and take the first left exit onto 66"

You're an idiot. Seriously. Do us all a favor and stay off the roads, m'kay?

How can the gloves come off when there isn't even a fight?

Where does GW and 66 intersect?

"Where does GW and 66 intersect?"

Only in that numbnutz' mind. Of course, if said numbnutz means Wilson Blvd, then the overhead 22' sign on the ramp might be a clue...

Route 66, from the Beltway to the Roosevelt Bridge was built and has operated since its opening in 1982 as a rush hour HOV road. The HOV requirements were not something that Virginia or VDOT imposed on an existing road. The funding for the road was provided for the construction of an HOV roadway.

So here's some light background reading on Interstate 66...

http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/idea66/downloads/Coleman-Decision.pdf

To make a long story very short; Arlington bitched and moaned and did everything it could to stop 66 from going through at all. A compromise was reached that allowed 66 to continue so long as certain restrictions were put in place
1 - Only 4 lanes total
2 - No trucks ever
3 - HOV during rush hour

That's how VA gets the power to levy HOV restrictions on I66. FYI, it doesn't matter whether you agree or think it's right, you still have to abide by it.

Welcome to NOVA you parasitic job robber. If you don't like it here, feel free to move back to Yokels-ville america where you will have no HOV restrictions and no job.

You're all trying to properly explain reality to a numbnutz who obviously can't even read road signs. How sweet.

Pointless, but sweet.

Said numbnutz will still be motoring on, oblivious to the world, staring down at it's phone while texting away, not even knowing what route it's on...

yea you don't want to tangle with the county over $200 you can afford TRUST ME.

well your right if it's poorly marked.

but there are so many smallish things wrong like that: your missing the big stuff. there are big problems to talk about like jobs and spending before worrying about that. and there's many big things not a few.

they once tried to give me a ticked for a "detour" style sign i couldn't see at night. THing is: it was in brown and white. it was a PARK sign!! a park sign used for road warning !! true story. for a wholey different reason i actually got off.

as a citizen you have a legal duty to pay up at times or be prosecuted when it's not your fault. obviously if it's too much or too often you'd be forced to complain.

------------------------

downtown they spend millions replacing signs just to change the font o f the signs. loosers!

when 66 / 95 was build they did the signs many times (overbilling us)

when 66/ 95 was built political and construction people were arrested. turns out certain people got "specially low prices" on land deals due to their involvement on 66 / 95 rip-offs of the taxpayer.

and that's how 66 / 95 was built kiddies :) that's in the books.

If you feel there is insufficient signs, go out and take photos and video and bring to court for the judge to see. You might get off; it does work.
